As these were prizes, maybe the best thing mtbakervapor could have done was to mark them as a gift? i thought they would of been tbh just a shame that we have to find the money or lose the prize It really is a shame I * think * ( in theory ) you can only do that if it's a package sent from one private individual to another Chrissie, flavourtank. Customs do seem to take a stricter line with goods from the US in comparison to other overseas countries. I think you may be right Mandy, however, as it was a gift, in a way, it had no monetary value, so I'm wondering what value mtbakervapor put on the form to generate such high import duties

I have quite a nice collection of $10 lipsticks and metal pipes from Chinese vendors Sent from my HTC One_M8 using proboards Indeed . . . China gets away with considerably more than the US appears to.

But that's just speculation on my part. Around £8.00 of the charges are going to be RM's handling fee.

China gets away with considerably more than the US appears to. This I find very strange.A country that we get on very well with ( Apparently ) , we get smashed on the tax and they are geographically closer ( don't get me started on the handling charge , they don't charge for every parcel that they deliver and process , even when someone's out etc etc etc ) , YET a country where we DON'T have a good relationship with ( business wise ) and is further away geographically , most of the time they get away scot free , tell me where the logic is ? Most of the time I would buy vaping stuff from the US , because you know it's better made. The problem lies IF something goes wrong and there isn't a distributor in this country.Sending and returning something to and fro from the US costs WAY more than it should , and costs more than the product itself, so just isn't worth buying in the first place. If you look at a product that you can get here and the US and JUST look at the figure it's roughly the same , just goes to show how much we get shafted over here. Not only Mods , but their juices are also really , really good too , yet it works out to expensive for UK suppliers to buy some in to try , because of the charges.Shame we would do a roaring trade between the UK and US and because to the friendly rivalry we the customer would get better and better juices. Yeah, the customs issue was definitely something that we overlooked. We will brainstorm how to circumvent that for future contests. Perhaps we will move to a store credit based contest winner for international customers? We'll look into the logistics on our end to see all what we can and cannot do. We don't want to deprive any of you guys.

I had a chat with Gill about it today and explained why the charges have been applied even although the items were not bought. If I remember correctly there is an option for paying the duty up front in the USA perhaps MtBakerVapor should have used that service which would have seen the competition winners receive their prizes without the expense.

I was unaware that was even a possibility. I will definitely look into that.

As a community, there are different regulations we agree should be in place, and certain ones we don't. For instance, I agree with the restriction on selling nicotine products to minors and creating a safety regulation for the hardware so you know you're not buying faulty equipment, but disagree with banning flavors and only allowing vaping in smoking areas. I would love to hear what you'd think would be positive regulations and what wouldn't be.
