Saw this on MSN ......can't get the whole thing, so attacking the nicotine...what a shaower of *****
Warning over e-cig risk to children 2 hours ago
Health officials should be prepared for an increasing number of children accidentally exposed to concentrated nicotine thanks to the rising use of e-cigarettes, doctors have said.In a letter published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood, experts said there is a danger of children coming into contact with the liquid refills for electronic cigarettes - which could cause "severe symptoms" in youngsters. In a letter published in the journal, the experts from Good Hope Hospital in Birmingham called for enhanced safety surrounding the items. They noted that in America there has been a "massive" rise in calls to poisons centres about e-cigarette liquid - with half the calls being about youngsters who had come into contact with the substances. The letter comes after the medics treated a toddler who had put one of the cartridges in her mouth. While the little girl's mother had quickly retrieved the refill she was worried the youngster may have swallowed some of the liquid.Doctors said that they tried to access information on affects of swallowing such solution but found that specific guidance on the ingestion of nicotine liquid was unavailable . They monitored the girl for a number of hours before sending her home."The exploratory nature of young children and the attractive packaging of refills is a dangerous combination likely to lead to a growing incidence of accidental exposure to concentrated nicotine solution," they wrote."The risk posed by nicotine liquid to children needs to be recognised, acknowledged and acted upon by all."

Actually, they're not attacking the nicotine at all here.Reading between the lines , we have already had scientific proof of how little danger there is with with E-liquid , no more dangerous than washing up liquid at worst. Also the packaging we get from the E-Liquid manufacturers is compliant with safety. So really they are having a go at the parents here , as they're responsible for the children getting hold of Juice or devices. The thing that annoyed me most was the bit at the bottom that said :- "The exploratory nature of young children and the attractive packaging of refills is a dangerous combination likely to lead to a growing incidence of accidental exposure to concentrated nicotine solution" . What a load of twaddle , aren't household cleaning chemical bottles and liquids in all sorts of attractive shapes and colours ??? I would like to know who wrote this letter , when and the rest of how this was found out, for example , how many cases in a 1000 hospital admissions etc. Surely it can't be that hard to work it out can it ??? Do ALL these morons that spout off this kind of continual rubbish actually think we believe this , I ceratinly didn't come down with the last shower. Andy

I've just seen this on the BBC national Breakfast news. I thought it was quite positive for ecigs to be mentioned without the usual "we just don't know" scare mongering. Instead ecig use has been reported on as a normal activity, while pointing out a bit of health and safety to stupid parents.

As it has recently been established that e-liquid of the nicotine concentrations we generally use for e-cigs is the same toxicity as washing up liquid it now should not be classified as a poison. The only thing it would cause to a toddler drinking it would be vomiting, probably a bad case of vomiting, which is probably just the same as drinking washing up liquid but without the effect of blowing bubbles from drinking washing up liquid, especially if it's fairy liquid But of course in all seriousness, yes it is up to the parents or adults in charge of minors to keep such liquids stored away from children, and to have child proof caps which is the norm for e-liquid anyway. Mind you, parents don't give a second thought to washing up liquid do they.

Parents really need to get their act together and stop leaving things lying around so that toddlers can pick them up, but the thing about that, that really worried me was the following:
"Doctors said that they tried to access information on affects of swallowing such solution but found that specific guidance on the ingestion of nicotine liquid was unavailable."
This is not the first instance of a toddler swallowing something, therefore there should be a list of possible affects of swallowing different types of liquid, whether it be bleach, washing up liquid or Nicotine
