Hiya, So yesterday my Launcher V2 from Fastech arrived, It worked fine yesterday and all of today but then i swapped tanks, fired it and felt the fire button get really hot as i was pressing it, i quickly took the battery out and saw this The rubber gromet from the inside of the mod was stuck to it and there is a scorch mark inside the case of the mod aswell, the tank that i had attached died in this incident aswell, ive since swapped coils and brought it back to life. So anyone know what happened here ? was it the coil shorting which then shorted the battery (is this even possible) or maybe i didnt have the battery screwed in tight enough in the mod so it touched the side of the case ?? Also would you say that battery is now ruined ? Cheers for any help

I looked at the FT mod and it looks OK in terms of how the battery is insulated on the top and bottom. The battery shouldn't short on the mod case as long as the wrapper on the battery is not damaged and exposing the metal of the battery underneath. I would think the fault was the coil in the tank shorting. If the coil shorts then you are in effect shorting the battery. This is the reason we all say 'test the coil before using'. I wouldn't use that battery again the wrapper is now damaged and that could short now if the metal touches it. It looks like the battery got very hot so you've had a near miss there.

Wow that sucks, it wasnt a new coil btw, ive been using it for maybe 4 days, its a stock Aerotank mega coil, noway i could have avoided that happening

I'd have thought a short in the tank might do that, and I personally wouldn't use the battery again - not in a mech mod, anyway.

Crossed post, but same idea.
You can check the tank with a multimeter or electronic mod.
I'd have thought that if you aren't building your own coils you'd be better off with an electronic mod anyway.

Your lucky you got it to stop shorting in time. This is why I say using ICR unprotected batteries is dangerous. They can short, and this one has. Please, use an IMR battery when you get a new one, If they short they vent liquid. ICR's will explode violently.

I agree. There's a case for using unprotected batteries in mech mods if you are someone with tech knowledge and proper gear including a multimeter and you have serious coiling ambitions. Normal users should use protected batteries (or an electronic mod).

I've built my own coils for a while now but this my first mech mod, guess stock coils are a no no on mech mods then, not sure checking it would have made a difference because it fired fine, shorted out mid drag

Your OK, that's the main thing. IMR's are much safer to use, if they short they will still get very hot, but vent out liquid till they die. ICR's go into meltdown and go off like a roman candle only with more of a bang.

If your atty is not showing shorting on a metre check the centre pin on the mod is not too big or wonky and shorting the connection to the atty when all tightened up.

It is more than likely the pin on the atty that has caused the short.
