Never had one myself but any amount of sparking is never a good sign..

You need to apply a tiny amount of "Noalox" to the point of the part that touches the battery nipple. Part of your weekly maintenance/cleaning should be to rub a little piece of abrasive paper (I use an emery board) across the pointed firing pin that touches the battery, to clean off any oxidation and apply the smallest amount of Noalox (about the size of a pin head) using the tip of a cocktail stick.

If the reo has sub ohm contacts fitted Rob the guy that makes them does not recommend cleaning with abrasives due to the contact being rhodium plated..Nolax is recommended by Rob.
I have read about arcing between vtc5 Battery's and the Reo contact and it was found that the Battery was the problem.
I find using the recommended AW Battery's give a much better feel on the fire button.
