I have to say I did thoroughly research the epson range you mention (up to ones costing about £64 at currys - about 1% differnence in which score compared to the canon) and decided they weren't for me ) but interesting what Q says about printers being a 'throwaway market' there fore wise not to spend too much.. Also the epson's don't have duplexing at the cheaper end. The canon's do

Epsons (plus others I'm sure) have a built in expiry date, in the form of a page count, when it reaches a certain score you get an error code which deciphers as 'needs service' what it ACTUALLY means is the 'ink well' (for excess ink) needs replacing/emptying, its an easy enough job to do BUT you have to reset the error message and currently I can only find that it needs to be a dealer fix, costing more than a replacement printer. My previous one lasted 2 years before the dreaded message (I was doing LOTS of printing at the time) this one is now 3 years old so I'm expecting it to happen soon, hence I only bought 2 sets of cartridges last time, so I'm now looking for my next one in anticipation of that

That sounds like just what happened to my old printer Q. Glad I didn't pay too much for my new one

I consider £30 - £40 for 2-3 years use to be just about OK, but it is a shame in this current recyclable world that they should force us to dump things that would carry on for a few more years
