now I could be wrong but wasn't the Statue of Liberty designed and given to America by the French?

Sort of - the statue itself was built and financed in France and then shipped to the states in pieces where is stayed in crates for over a year (and probably would have remained there) until a New York newspaper ran a funding campaign to build the plinth and mount Lady Liberty in return for donors names being printed in the paper.

The average donation was under a dollar apparently

It makes me wonder what these designers are thinking of when they put pen to paper. There are many really attractive mods around to get some ideas from, and Innokin come up with that - no way would I use something like that if you paid me!
I'm no graphic artist, but even I could come up with something more desirable than that (unless you are a sex-starved Egyptian woman living in New York, that is!).
