I get very patriotic around this time, in respect and remembrance I hope you won't mind me posting, please, for England, read all those nations who fought for peace and freedom:
With proud thanksgiving, a mother for her children, England mourns for her dead across the sea. Flesh of her flesh they were, spirit of her spirit, Fallen in the cause of the free.
Solemn the drums thrill: Death august and royal Sings sorrow up into immortal spheres. There is music in the midst of desolation And a glory that shines upon our tears.
They went with songs to the battle, they were young, Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow. They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted, They fell with their faces to the foe.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.
They mingle not with their laughing comrades again; They sit no more at familiar tables of home; They have no lot in our labour of the day-time; They sleep beyond England's foam.
But where our desires are and our hopes profound, Felt as a well-spring that is hidden from sight, To the innermost heart of their own land they are known As the stars are known to the Night;
As the stars that shall be bright when we are dust, Moving in marches upon the heavenly plain, As the stars that are starry in the time of our darkness, To the end, to the end, they remain.

Hubby is ex Navy. Our son is adopted and my new avatar was from the day after they laid the wreath together in our village for the Toddlers and Parents group. Very proud of them both. x

My brother is in the marines and our family has a military history. That doesn't mean remembrance day means any more to us but it does mean that it is very important for us lovely post katiekooJames McClean of Wigan Athletic recently received a lot of attention due to refusing to wear a poppy. I found his statement to be quite enlightening www.wiganlatics.co.uk/news/article/14-11-07-statement-regarding-james-mcclean-2070059.aspxI think we can all pay respects to any and all who have made sacrifices for the greater good or just stood up for what they believe in.

I think how we choose to respect others is entirely personal. Unless is it born from ignorance. He has taken time to think about his beliefs and that is commendable. If I berated someone for not wearing a poppy maybe I would be guilty of disrespecting those things I think we have striven to protect? (wine and vaping may have caused my grammar and wording to be less than correct!)

Remembrance Day is not just about remembering those who died/fought in the first and second world wars, but all wars where ever and whenever they took or are taking place.
I will be on parade tomorrow in my scout leader uniform with the Beavers all paying our respects.

To my Uncle Sid who I never met and fell on the beaches of Normandy in service of his country, to my Uncle Eric who spent 3 years in a POW camp . . . . and returned with mind and body broken by the horrors he endured and witnessed. To all our heroes who have made such sacrifice and to those who continue to do so, for the good of us all. Thank you.

I suppose I shouldn't be so shocked at how many adults didn't observe the 2 minute silence. It shows a lack of respect not just for those who fought & died but for those around them who did want to remember in peace and quiet.

I was disappointed that the workers outside did not stop using their pneumatic drills for the 2 minutes silence.
