Hello all

Spent some time reading here - it seems a really friendly and helpful forum - and contacted Jason at Vapescape for advice and he gave me a super fast reply!

I'm 51, smoked 20 - 25 daily for, must be, 30 + years. I would really like to give up or greatly reduce the habit.

I do enjoy the act of smoking and believe a lot of it is ritual for me but hate the smell afterwards on clothes, fabric, hair, hands etc (!), so feel that vaping may work for me. Patches made me feel ill with heart palps, weird dreams etc.

I'm thinking of starting with the Riva 1100. Choice of juices is overwhelming but thought I'd start with pic n mix - I like a menthol cig occ and love that Cherry tobacco in a rollie you can get from tobacconist.

Any advice on cartomisers as they seem to be the way to go?

Hi and welcome

I started off with standard resistance boges and moved on to low resistance (LR) kangers after a while.
The LR ones are really great on the riva style battery.

I would try both and see which you like. Your choice will change over time anyway.

Welcome alijoy, sounds like you have already got an excellent starter kit lined up. Like Womble says, Boge or Kanger cartomisers are a good choice and worth trying the SR and LR ones. The LR will give a bigger throat hit.

Pick and mix is a good way to start, Ry4 is very popular so worth a try and maybe one of the menthol or menthol flavoured ones. Otherwise just pick what takes your fancy.

AAEC is a very friendly and supportive place and has guided many of us through our first vaping steps so ask away and keep us posted on your progress

Just to give the members a bit of history.....Ali contacted me for some advice and I have given her a bit of background (by email) on the differences between atomiser/cartridge combinations and cartomisers.

I didn't want to overwhelm Ali with information, so I also suggested a read through the help files on here and a few Youtube videos.

So I'm sure Ali will get plenty of help and opinions from the members

Thank you everyone - good to come across a forum when you're starting out that is so friendly and has a sense of humour! - there's a lot of bitchin on the tinternet.

I'm a nurse, which is where I think a lot of the ritual stuff comes from - many of us light up in our breaks, when we get them. In fact, when I first trained, way back in the mists, I think virtually everyone smoked at work. It was very much a social/peer thing.

But it's weird how I dislike the after smell - I don't even like it if I've not had a cig for an hour and smell it on someone else. And I hate the thought I must smell like that too. But then, I am strange....

We have other members that are nurses - including Lilac, one of our moderators. I also remember way back in the mists of time being encouraged to smoke by nurses & doctors after I was hospitalized after a breakdown.

Welcome Ali , isn't it weird how our health advisors smoke like chimneys my mum was a nurse also and smoked like a trooper , she still does and can't get into vaping although she has tried , good luck to you on your journey into vaping
