...based soley on the sexy look of the thing (it was £7 and had great reviews), so...my question is this - can someone tell me how to use it please? bare in mind I've got the time it takes the thing to ship from china to figure out what I'm doing.

This is a good video, you are best to start with just one wick. The Kraken and full Genesis tutorial with Vapelyfe

A few little tips for the kraken
1. Keep it upright. They leak if left on their sides.
2. No matter how much they beg, how much they scream, never wick them with cotton. It doesn't matter if you use cotton on other devices, it is like kryptonite to a kraken. Silica and SS mesh are your friends here.
3. Make your coils long. Their is quite a height difference between the posts. Long coils will result in shorter legs and less wasted power.
4. Open up that airflow and lung hit.
5. The kraken can be set up single or dual coil. Use one airhole beside your coil for single, or both airholes for dual coil.

How well would cotton wrapped in steel mesh work? cheers.

haha I got halfway down the 1st page thinking "what a strange thread" before realising the images weren't loading up on the ancient web browsers they use in work. I'll take a look at that tomorrow cheers.

Cotton will work in a kraken, but nowhere near as well as a ss mesh/silica wick. Cotton seems to either flood the coils or result in dry hits. The capillary action of silica in a genesis (vertical against gravity) just seems to be more consistent. Apart from that, feeding cotton inside mesh is really challenging. Getting the correct amount of cotton to soak up enough juice for lower ohms and keeping it loose enough to work well is a real pain.
Cotton is possible, just not worth the effort or hassle.

How well would cotton wrapped in steel mesh work? cheers. The wick holes are too long and tight for cotton unless you have a tiny diameter coil as cotton does not wick fast enough over that distance. Stainless Steel mesh or ss rope and mesh (which I prefer) will wick faster and keep your coils feed in that situation, it's what the atty was designed to use and has much better flavour (not suited to some flavours like custard). Cotton is great for short runs or drippers, there are some genesis attys like the Origen Genesis V2 that have much bigger and shorter wick holes for cotton. I have built the Kraken a few times with rayon wit OK results, but it handles squashing a bit better than cotton. Try the build in the video I posted and when you can do that start trying other builds, it is not the best build, but is good and one of the easiest for a first steel build, keep it simple and then build on that when you have some successes under your belt. The coils should touch the wick, but not so tight you can not move the wick a little.

And take your time a good genesis build with steel could last a year, I get bored and change them but I have one here that has been used everyday since July.

cheers VapingBad I had a look last night and found some steel rope for about £1.50 a meter, seems a lot less fiddly to use than cotton anyway. plus custards are WAY overrated
