Hello I need help (mentally and physically) I've made a 0.26ohm coil using 32awg nickel and wicked with muji The problem I'm having is the temp protection seems to kick in very quickly and I've tried raising temp but horrible taste (dry) and lowering but it doesn't help. I have adjusted the wattage and it tastes minging. Do you think using another wick I.e rayon would help and is it better to Have the wick quite thick? @scooby Tom decoyJust tagged you as it looks like you know what might help First thing to check is the loops not touching then go to the SteamEngine coil calc put in all the details including watts and check the resistance is close to what you got and the heat flux icon is green or close to green. It maybe shorting accross loops or the coil may not have enough contact area.

VapingBadhad a look and entered details, the heat flux is green at 10w 200mw/mm2 coil is 0.26ohm 3mm diameter 32awg is it right to have a lower wattage and ive got temp on 460f

flavourtank I would try something with a lower heat flux then into the blue, by more wraps or thicker or twisted wire.

flavourtank actually before changing it just check that increasing the airflow doesn't cure it, the airflow and wicking are all part of the equation and you won't be the first person to be caught out by a too tight airflow tripping temp limit.

flavourtank Have you checked the ohms are right on other mods or an ohm reader. What mod you using? some just don't work. You shouldn't be getting an "horrible" taste regardless off airflow etc...just less vapor.

I've got my @windows DNA40 gripper I'm using subtank mini and airflow wide open, since using the se flux thing it's got better So I'm on 0.26ohm 11w and 450f

VapingBadsince lowering watts its been nice so ill stick with it for now cheers pal Sounds like your on the right path flavourtank always best to lower the watts rather than raise the temp when you keep hitting TP As VB said air and juice flow play an important part, it took a while for that penny to drop with me. Some atties are deficient in that respect and can't keep up if the watts are to high.

i wont pretend to know what this steam engine calk is or how to use it but now ive found a nice working coil in the subtank rba and wow you really can taste a diff depending on the temp i dont like these posh cotton pads ,i just cant get on with them and can get far better results off cotton balls i havent managed any normal spaced coils as let as i cant seem to get a high nuff ress and as got tc in the goblin i cant see me managing that this year lol did get the doge running in single coil tc and it was fun running it dry with no dry hits it wont let you push the atty past what it can do so dont expect more vape than with out tc but flavor on the subtank is a huge diff i did fuf fuf tc when it came out as being for peps that dont know there attys well im not saying i was wrong but i wasn't right either it can eek more flavor out of a tank

Just set my goblin up and yes couldn't get the calcs to work with spaced coils woth the room on the deck....stuck some old fashion wire in it. .8 for me so in reality I don't need the protection on this tank so it's on a mech without a hint of a burnt hit.

You make some pertinent points decoy 'No more dry hits' was touted as the big advancement and as you imply, many said who needs that if you're experienced and know your atty. Getting the most flavour from a juice by way of pre heat and vaping at the correct temp is the advancement imo. Not all atties are equal and my most used one when I switched to temp limiting was a Spheroid, unfortunately it didn't perform well at all, which I put down to restricted air flow but could have been other things as well. KF4 and SquapeR, both of which I use also need modifying to get good conductivity within the atty. I had a Goblin briefly and couldn't get the spaced coils I liked to work well due to restrictive space. Fro my experience the temp range for the best flavour is quite small, doesn't vary much and isn't atty dependent. But the power is dependent on the coil and the coil you use is determined by your taste, (Cool/hot) and the atties attributes. The coil that VapingBad uses in his Origen and the one I use in the SquapeR may be exactly the same resistance but completely different in other respects, that's where the steam engine calc come into it's own, helping matching the coil to your taste and attie, plus all the info on there help to identify why a particular coil is performing better than others. I'll just add that these are just my thoughts from the way I use temp limiting, ie temp limiting/wattage control as opposed to wattage limiting /temp control

Just adding to this thread. Had my VF DNA40 for a while now, but no NI for a build. Put in an order the other day, and just built my first NI build at 0.18 Ohm. Just .20mm, 9 wraps, dual coil in my CLT. Quite nice I must admit. Currently at 430F and 25W, so will have a play around.

For those who don't want to build Link saying video does not exist. Jay It was just the introduction of NI coil heads, probably VapingShozza who apparently/allegedly withdrew his channel because the kids at his school found it and a fuss was made, poor guy.

Had a eureka moment a few days ago. Been loving the billow tanks, I have 2 of them currently in full time rotation. IMO their biggest problem is a little bit of a fussy wick. Too much, dry hits galore, too little and its a bit of a dribbler. However, wick it just right and this tank by far and away gives me the vape that I want more then anything else ive had. So the eureka moment. Bang a pair of nickel coils in there! I built and wicked one of them at 0.12 ohms 0.25mm nickel and the other using 0.2mm nickel. I aired on the side of caution with the wick, knowingly putting a little more than normally needed. They are both performing absolutely class. Perfect vape every time I havnt been as happy with my setups since my family of kayfun lites. Just thought I'd share. I may do a build guide in the next few days as it seems people would like it It will be for a dual coil as I dont have any single coil tank at the minute although I may get the kayfun monster v2 to have a go at with
