Just spotted this on Facebook and thought it may be worth passing on because as far as I am aware this is not a good combination. "I sanded down my chimney on the Atlantis and it is in fact chrome plated brass".

I really don't see an issue here, to be honest, assuming the plating is done correctly. The person linked to on Facebook had sanded it down - had they not? Sand a condom down and you are asking for trouble Or am I missing something? (wouldn't be the first time )

(wouldn't be the first time ) I think the person who sanded it done it because they thought the flavour from it was a bit funky. Unfortunately there are a few issues. The lead in the brass and if the chrome coating starts to come of I would not like to be vaping it. The biggest issue for me is Aspire's description on their website says that it is all stainless steel...erm no it isn't. If I remember correctly they had the same issue with the Nautilus.

Is it lead? I thought it was zinc. But even without the sanding I'd imagine some brass being exposed on the chimney's internal threads and in contact with juice after a bit of use. I personally wouldn't want that.

If the chrome is coming away the first thing i would worried about is where the chrome is going!
good plating means no issue.
take a look at it now and again.
it shouldn't really wear out.

Aspire have contacted P Busardo and said this will be changed to stainless. I can't remember what he said about the ones that have already been purchased. He talks about it in his review of the tank and sub ohm battery.

No problem until you start sanding, we have all been using atties in the past that was crome plated, if it wears off after 2 years, bin it and buy a new.

The problem is with manufacturers telling people it is all stainless steel then you find out it is chrome plated brass. Then just to top it off the Sub OHM battery is poorly regulated. I would prefer the manufacturer to tell me the truth then it is up to me to make an informed decision on if I want to use their kit or not.

Sand a condom down and you are asking for trouble Or am I missing something? (wouldn't be the first time ) I think the original issue was the plating coming away from the nautilus chimney made people look at what they are using in their 'all stainless steel construction' A mate of mine is in the plating industry He has a nautilus and told me that they have used 'beauty' chrome not 'engineering' chrome. (I am sure it makes sense to someone) apparently it means it is plated on the cheap. Now this worries me for 2 reasons. Firstly: Where is all the flakes of Chromium going and what about the chemistry that will be under it? (Sulphuric acid and associated nasties) Secondly: Brass isn't the best alloy to have in contact with your juice. It will almost certainly contain lead and I bet next month's mortgage payment that they didn't use DZR Brass (Corrosion resistant). The final moan I will have is that they advertise the nautilus as all stainless steel then chuck a cheap bit of chromed brass in it. So if a UK company pulled that what would happen to them? I was all lined up to buy me a Nautilus but I aint buying one now. That's my choice but as I have said there are reasons and I am sure that many people will continue to buy and enjoy these but I wont be one of them
