chykensaSomething to try before you go looking about the Bios. The pics are from windows XP but you should be able to guess your way through in Vista using it as a guide. Open up Control Panel - and click on "Sounds and Audio Devices" as shown. Mine is in classic view but in Category View its the tile with a picture of a musical note and a speaker marked "Sound, Speech and Audio Devices" Should open up the Properties box, click on Advanced to open up the following Check it isn't set for "No Speakers" If it is set to "No Speakers" change it to "Laptop Stereo" (or mono as appropriate) and remember to click "Apply"I just tested this and changed it to no speakers, all the volume controls showed the volume set as normal and the speaker icon in the system tray did not show as muted but I had no sound. Only thing was that the headphone socket still worked. Still worth checking out though.

Mine is sorted now. Went into One Key rescue system rebooted ( didn't know how else to do it) however, I have now got the sound back Yea! Mine is a Lenova G500 laptop with Win 8.1, this is the second time the sound has gone and I don't know why/how it happened.

chykensa..if you think it was something you altered that caused the problem go into system restore and restore settings to a earlier date.
