I recently bought a £20 chromecast as man bought kids a Netflix account so I thought I'd try and utilise it.....
Omg wow! I'm loving it and plowing through box sets while sobbing in bed. it's superb quality, an so impressed, considering its price

So glad I did - it's blooming brilliant, the upscaling is fantastic the set up was easy - especially the connection to my Brightbox That's good news ChrissieBy some stroke of bad luck, our TV died on Monday night (you might remember my post about going to Tesco and coming back with Pies) and I ended up scouring the local stores for one of 3 models of smart TV. It got a full testing today (thanks to family) and I even watched a paulymeatballs youtube presentation to check out that function. The roku is now (already!) consigned to the kitchen telly.... still, good for iplayer in there as well. I wish I'd done it sooner really...

MY TV is only a few years old, so couldn't really justify buying a new one. But I'm now actually glad that my old recorder started to die

I have a SMART Panasonic that's a little over 3 years old now. The picture itself is excellent, in both 2D and 3D, but the SMART functions are pretty basic. But they do work fine, apart from missing the Amazon Prime app. So I bought a Xbox One for that. I have a current model SONY in the bedroom, and whilst the picture isn't as good, the SMART is much better, and has Amazon.
In another bedroom I have a PS3 set-up for SMART, as that TV doesn't have a digital tuner. And my Cinema room has an Xbox 360. This will likely be replaced with the Xbox One from the lounge, whilst that is replaced with a PS4 most likely. In the meantime, it does everything I need except playing Blu Rays.
However, my PC is set-up to stream content throughout all these systems (and a few HiFi's dotted about too), so I generally rip my BluRays as soon as I get them onto the PC, then I can watch them in any room, in as high a quality as the TV is capable of. Works really well for me anyway. I actually have my PC set-up to automatically download the latest episodes of all my programmes, and populate them straight onto the server, so I don't ACTUALLY need to watch any live TV, apart from the News. I'll be binning Sky and my TV license next year.
