That's quite a coincidence mikemichelle as I've just completed my first attempt at rebuilding an upgraded Kanger dual coil about 20 minutes ago. It's in my Protank 3 and is working well on the SID (The Smart-20 is recharging too far from the PC). I followed Bill Bottoms tutorial on YouTube and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. Initially I used too much Japanese cotton and the roll was far too tight to fit in the can. Second time a lot better and mine worked out at 1.4 ohms on the SID. It's giving me a tighter vape than I'm used too but then I like drippers on a mech. But the flavour of the juice in the pt3 is much improved over the recently installed old style dual coil. By the way, I found taking the stem off very easy using Bill's method with needle nose pliers. Maybe I was just lucky this time. bth_wink-8I've got a small collection of used new style coil heads so I'll re-coil a few more later and see if I can arrive at an accurate amount of cotton.

sydsut I saw that video while searching youtube for kanger recoiling and will definetly give it shot once my kanthal arrives. Got any new tips to give that didn't make it to the video?

I'm also heading towards needing to re-coil some duals and I'll probably use the add a second grommet head trick just to make life easy, dual-coils don't really add anything special for me in terms of flavour. I was wondering though, do you think re-coiling a dual as a single coil using standard wick and then place a strip/wod of of cotton on top to fill in the gaps would work? I may try it just to see what happens - mad scientist

I use a 4.5 mm cable tie to wrap the kanthal around that I saw on another video somewhere. This works really well and is easier to wick to boot.

Me being a newbie and never tried re-coiling before, which of the above two methods do you guys think is the easiest? I know it depends on a number of variables, not least how nimble and dextrous one's fingers are, but if you were re-coiling for the first time, which method would you try first?

Mail day! First go at the vertical coil, 28Ga kanthal 7 wraps around 3mm drill: Managed surprisingly well, quite proud of myself as this was my first atempt to build any coil ever...tuned the cotton for airflow: After adding juice the ohms settled to 1.7, Vaping great and the flavor is better in my opinion than on the originals. So far no gurgling or leaking.

After some more testing and around 20 recoils, I've changed my coil to 9 wraps around 2mm drillbit. You can fit the drill through the center pin and it seems to give the perfect draw (for me). Need to lower my nic though as these are hitting harder than the stock ones
