Big boys are only as powerful as thier lawyers and they can have thier shitty cig a likes as far as I'm concerned as long as the leave rest alone. Let them have them as it may well be their nemisis, pun intended .
Read here yesterday 2million are vaping in the UK, smokers = about 20% of a population of around 65million I think. Do the math the UK the goverment would have noticed that tax loss already but remain quiet.

Reduced revenue from tobacco will never be mentioned in connection with ecigs. It will be taxed and controlled for our benefit, makes me feel all warm inside. Liquids not safe!! quick form a committee, sell a license to produce eliquid to companies, watch the money roll in. Little shops/companies making their own to sell will have to buy nicotine solution from a licensed source or apply for a license.

That's don't always have to tax, they can cut....start with the money wasted on the NHS stop smoking schemes, they're won't be required...! They also have not got to balance the books over night.

First one that come up on Google, happened to be a few years ago so vaping played no part, tobacco doesn't even fit the on the pie chart, they really don't have much to balance out and plenty to play with.

Tax is nothing to do with raising money the government needs or balancing the books. The tax on tobacco has proved that. The argument has always been smokers cost the NHS millions, the total direct tax on tobacco would pay for 60-70% of the NHS bill. It has been argued that smokers live shorter lives therefore no state pensions but still tax went up year on year. Tax is raising money the powers that be want not what they need. Put simply. Stop the welfare state. Stop NHS. Stop state pensions. Stop free education for the over 16. This would save billions very quickly. Even if God forbid this happened do you think taxes would be reduced?

@letsavit the problem the govt has is the fiscal deficit is growing. They need to raise revenue, if they are losing tobacco revenue, and pharma aren't selling so many patches etc, they will seek to make the revenue up elsewhere, guess what the growing industry is, yes it's us!

Were a piss in the ocean as far as tax is concerned. Can get 3 x 10 mls at any shop for £10 even at 20% tax its not massive, that's why I don't think it will be introduced for a few years. Wait till its hitting 40-50% smokers then do it. Everything will be in place within 2 years then within 5 were goosed. No government attacks a large section of the voting public, bit by bit first then go for the throat.

To put a bit of context for @letsavit 's post According to the Tobacco Manufacturers' Association using HMRC data smokers delivered £12.3 Billion in revenue (£9.7 Billion in excise and £2.6 Billion in VAT). 2012/2013. As an aside only 5% VAT is paid on medicinal nicotine replacement products. From a revenue perspective the government would gain more money if the the market stays non-medicinal!
