Welcome to the Vapers in Power Quarterly Newsletter.
A FEW WORDS FROM YOUR CANDIDATE: LIAM BRYAN
I'm a 43 year old Bristolian vaper, with one young child and another imminent (and I really mean imminent!). Still, perhaps foolishly, believing in politics I was drawn to the Vapers In Power proposition, although with nothing to offer by way of usable skills to a nascent political party there was only ever one possible role – a candidate!
I'm not really hoping to be an MP, that's not really our point. We exist, it bears repeating I think, because we fear the worst from the imminent enactment of the TPD – the banning of any and all forms of advertising for ecigs (along with all the other Pharma-friendly clauses). We're another head of the ecig Hydra if you will, alongside NNA, ECITA, and others – keeping the voice for vaping alive!
I hope to use the election to spread the word and counter the lies, I'm a Science Teacher by training, and I still believe in Science too! If we can establish ourselves as a going concern, by running a credible campaign, then vaping gets another group in its corner.
CAMPAIGN UPDATE
Vapers In Power has been busy. We saw the New Year in with a bang with our "Why vaping could be the answer to 100,000 deaths a year" press release, timed to reach the news offices just as they were thinking up New Year's resolution stories. We followed this up with the ongoing 'Vapers and the Smoking Shed' campaign- we are collecting the names of companies who exile vapers to the smoking shed and sending them our press release direct. We are also actively promoting the MOVE campaign and the Totally Wicked TPD Challenge - as well as sharing major news stories via our Twitter feed, Facebook and through the forums.
ELECTION CROWDFUNDING
Look out for our Crowdfunding campaign to fund Liam Bryan's candidacy at the UK general election this May. We don't expect Liam to get elected but the election will give us a golden opportunity to promote vaping. Our campaign target will be £1000. Any money left over will go towards our future campaigns. We also have Paypal donations buttons on
www.vapersinpower.co.ukA NEW MEMBER OF THE TEAM
Please give a very warm welcome to Abi Cott, our Social Media and Press Secretary, and the newest member of the team. Abi is also known as Diche on POTV, where she helps out as a moderator. Abi cut her teeth on social media campaigning with her instrumental role in the Bring Back Scrabble Worldwide Campaign. Our social media presence has exploded since Abi joined us.
VAPE JAM
Come and meet us at Vape Jam at London’s Olympia on Saturday 9th May. Liam Bryan (fresh from fighting his general election campaign) and Russell VR Ord (our Treasurer) will be giving a presentation. Jessica and Abi will be there too.
MISSION STATEMENT
Vapers In Power is a new Political Party, registered in the UK with the Electoral Commission. The Party was formed in response to the draconian clause in the Tobacco Products Directive which forbids the promotion of vaping. Registered political parties enjoy some rights to free speech – by registering a political party we hope to guarantee that vaping will not be forced out of the public arena.
We welcome all offers to help with the exciting process of running a political party for vaping. Please email us on info@vapersinpower.co.uk You can also find more information at vapersinpower.co.uk
