I am going to have a crack at making my own tank so had a search online for these. There are some that are quite cheap, but the postage makes it £5+...this is the cheapest I have found, and postage is only £1.95, making the whole thing less than £3: www.technobotsonline.com/zinc-collar-9x18x10mm.htmlI may be wrong but I think it's a 9mm inner bore diameter. (I've not measured it but read on the link Dave posted)

How thick is the metal on a carto? Would the tip of a skewer or something similar do? And why can't posts be previewed now? When I click preview, they post

its not very thick but the problem with skewers and nails is they slip and slide when you try and hit them to make the hole

Wouldn't the hole in the ring thing stop it sliding around?

Looks like just a wing nut and screw to me, but then I don't know much about such things! Lol.

I also got the 10mm collar, and this is a little too big! I imagine it would still do the same job, but it wouldn't hold the carto tight (Until the screw was tightened) As for the spike - I am yet to have a rummage around in the garage, but I initially thought that I would grind the grub screw to a point, but then that would mean having to have an Allen key on hand each time?

What about. Supergluing the allenkey into grub screw? Or getting a wingnut to fit and grinding to a point

A wingnut would be the best option, but after rummaging in the garage I found nothing!

You know too well! Usually it's like an alladins cave of useful bits and bobs, but after the tidy up I had in there summer last year it just hasn't been the same!
