Coiling on a bolt. Yes, a bog standard bolt. I used a 3.4mm outer diameter one I found in the toolbox, with a fairly fine thread from the look of it. Wind the coil on the threads of the bolt, unscrew it, and lob it on your atty. Perfectly distanced coils and no faff. Another fine idea from the folks at vttv Dave Dorn used an M4 bolt for his build.

I've had quite a spell of coiling on an M3 bolt, and it works a treat. Saw someone on YT doing it and immediately went out and got 6 bolts to allow for losing a few, and you're right the results are spot-on!

Yes, I saw this done by Andy VW on his spheroid rebuild. It'll be very handy for an evenly spaced subtank rebuild --- if I only knew what a M3 screw looked like....

Eek don't get a screw Pepperty, they're tapered remember... you want a M4 bolt like this. At that sort of price, get a selection M3 M4 M5 to make sure

You can vary the spacing by getting different thread pitch. It does make neat coils.

What about a capscrews, should they be capbolts In engineering terms yes. Normally bolts are meant to be used with nuts and feature a shoulder. Fully threaded fasteners are always screws as they will either go into a blind hole or self tap into a material. Edit for link: Please see
