Oh dear. Must say my Beavers are lovely. Most of them are fantastically well behaved children. Took 11 on a 2 hour hike and then an hour Easter Egg hunting and not a single problem with any of them. Just need to train the 6 new ones up to the same standard now. I am evil if they don't listen and do as they are told I won't let them play a game, if they still don't listen I make them sit on the circle for 1 minute in total silence. Think I met Brian at Kernow 2013, I was there as an ASL. You must know the ahem legend that's Tony (normally in a kilt). I'll say no more. I tried everything but if they have no respect for their parents then you've got no chance. Even had one male parent who was gonna beat me because I told his child off for swearing, he arrived, seen me and his bottle went. I still banned his child just the same.

Oh yes. He did a fantastic job with Kernow 2013. I would have banned the child as well, more because of the parent. Can't be doing with parents who can't see their childs' faults, some parents are more hassle than the Beavers.

I know this is going a little off topic and I'm sorry.
I used to be a Scout leader ( straight after being to old to be a Scout myself ) at 16-17 , for about 5 or so years , even then I could see things going downhill. For us in Sussex , it wasn't the kids , most of the time it wasn't the parents ( although , a lots of kids left , because their parents said "My little Tommy isn't doing this and that......." ) , it was the Sussex committee that messed it up for us. We were a troop that did traditional scouting , like making your own bivvy , making fires , etc etc etc. We even did ( as a separate entity for a while , while the Sussex committee still supported us ) survival weekends. To me , this was what scouting was all about , not a glorified computer club and a competition to see how many badges you could get.The committee made it more and more difficult for us to operate and put restrictions on what we could and couldn't do.It wasn't so much of a survival weekend , more like Glamping.
Sorry , rant over , haven't spoken about this for over 20 years.

Hike from hut to site, set up bivvys and make fires, they have to sleep in their bivvy not matter what the weather (when my son did his weekend it was horrendous weather) only way for the children to learn. I agree though, there is alot of red tape which puts leaders off doing traditional scouting skills.

Whereabouts in Sussex was that Montana ? sounds rather like the camp at Pease Pottage This wasn't even an official camp site , it was a site we sourced ourselves on private land.Even though there was a public footpath through the middle of this wood ( ancient woods , so they could be used for camping and bits and pieces , but no trees could be cut unless they were dangerous , no-one ever used that part of the footpath anyway because there was a better footpath up the top and the footpath we were on was a dead end. I agree though, there is alot of red tape which puts leaders off doing traditional scouting skills. Very similar to us , although we added , live poultry , astral navigation , water purification , natural plant food source and during the two nights they had to have at least one person awake and that person ( for however long they were awake for ) had to keep the fire going and if need be get more things for the bivvy if it started to rain. It was tiring for all concerned , but I thoroughly enjoyed it and would do it again in a heartbeat , IF we could have it the way it was. I see programs now , like the ones with Bear Grylls and think how dam lucky these people are. They are getting the opportunity of a lifetime and something money can't buy and then bitch about it all the way through. This kind of winging also seems to go on with other types of reality programs where people are given a golden opportunity and then totally waste it. Totally agree Montana. Some of them couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag. Anyway back on topic. Chrissie has kindly offered lifts from St Austell OR Par so we c9uld have the Vape meet at The Rashleigh, Charlestown. We have had a mini meet there before 2 summers ago and it was fantastic. The food was lovely, the drinks were good and a nice outdoor area and lots of parking and the sea. May have to phone up a check they still allow vaping. What do you guys think?

Unfortunately, I've just remembered, it's a St Austell brewery owned pub - they banned e-cigs from all of their pubs

Noooooooooo! Should we then just put up with The Royal getting our food orders wrong? Why not beacon and we can do some vape shopping at the same time ? Or my closes vape shop is huge and I think I could swing it with him, also there's a pub right next door. That's in Falmouth btw

During the winter we hold almost all vape meets at Beacon Vape (and the local pub), but during the summer months it is lovely to get outside (if possible) and further up the County for those that come from further afield. Chrissie for example is in St Blazey, Q near Liskeard, BrenD somewhere in the middle of nowhere close to Plymouth.
