Kanthal is actually a brand name, so you could well be buying Nichrome made by Kanthal. Nichrome is Nichrome - no matter who makes it. Kanthal A1 is Kanthal A1: kanthal.com/en/products/materials-in-wire-and-strip-form/wire/resistance-heating-wire-and-resistance-wire/I think we just got used to calling it 'Kanthal' after the original manufacturer. But then anyone can call anything kanthal and peeps will buy it. Muji, KGD and 'organic' cotton balls are all organic. We just prefer to use 'untreated' or 'unbleached' cotton for obvious reasons, cough cough!!

Personally I use kanthal bought from the vape mesh company and cotton from muji, both at good prices in the UK.

Personally I would get wire from StealthVape run by vapers for vapers and they believe in customer service. IIRC kanthal handles slightly higher temps (way over what we need) is more springy and some people think it tastes better (but most if not all pre-made cols are Nichrome) so Kanthal became more popular with re-builders, but there is a trend going back to Nichrom for thicker grades as it's is supposedly easier to work with than kanthal.

I think that most people use Kanthal ATM, but they are both OK you could play with the coil calculator on SteamEngine or StealthVape to see who the choice of material may affect the dimensions of your coil.

I leaned a few decent coils using that so I hardly ever use it any more.

just ran them through the calc and nichrome handles more wattage(24w) before getting hot, normal kanthal handles less (19w) thats based on leg length of 5mm i don't actually know what the leg length is thats just what was in calc as standard....on my geniune 0.5 coils i run between 18-22 depending on juice/battery power so i think the nichrome may be better but ill get both to try

Cheers Ripshod just what i was looking for, now i just need to google myself stupid so i can understand all the options.. wire size, leg length, ohms required, coil diameter - I know Then start playing with the watts setting for the heat flux There is an easier one somewhere, just I don't know. Kinda jumped in at the deep end

Kinda jumped in at the deep end Tis easy when you know how: Set inner diameter, leg length, wire type, single/dual/etc, ohms and watts. Then look at the coloured icon for heat flux and try to get it green by adjusting the wire diameter (maybe kanthal or Nichrome to) and if that doesn't work you may need the change the ohms a bit.
