I hadn't smoked for 2yrs when I started vaping, still had the nic gremlin on my shoulder after 40+ yrs of smoking. No one in their right mind would start vaping if they hadn't smoked, just the same as no one in there right mind would start smoking.....would they? I doubt never smoked vapers would join a forum but lets see..........

Dont know any myself, however quite a few who still smoke and vape, will only use an ego type device, they buy from a market stall, when I chat to them about updating their set up, as it would improve the whole vaping experience, and maybe help give up he fags completely, they baulk at spending initial £50.00 but will quite happily continue to spend that on ciggies a week. I know its a big step, being a 30 a day smoker of 35 years myself. But surely it's worth a try,

That's great. I had someone tell me today that all the nice flavours encourage people to try it that have never smoked. I said I didn't know one vaper that wasn't a smoker first. However, my son knows a crowd of lads at his college that do it just to blow clouds and compete with each other.

In all honesty if vaping were around when i was a nipper i would most likely have picked that up instead of the fags, whether i would have kept at it for 27 years like i did with smoking though is debatable. I wouldn't be so daft as to say it's not addictive at all but i can say for me personally i don't get the craving for it like i used to for tobacco, i don't get fidgety or ratty if i don't have a vape so i would say there is some other component to tobacco which drives addiction beyond the nicotine. I think quitting vaping would be nowhere near as difficult as quitting smoking.
Some people are just going to do stuff they know isn't good for them and others won't, i was always one of those people that went for the pleasure and figured i would worry about the consequences later. I knew smoking was unhealthy before i started smoking it wasn't like my parents generation where smoking was thought to be harmless i knew the risks but didn't care, i tried it and genuinely liked it and continued. I'm sure if available at the time i would have tried vaping instead but i would have had a damned sight easier time knocking it on the head when it became less of a pleasure and more of a need.
I don't care how many laws they bring in or how much campaigning they do they're never going to stop kids trying things like smoking.drinking, drugs etc the only sensible and reasonable course of action is to provide the information on the dangers and make the activity as safe as possible for those that do decide to do it. Prohibition to me is akin to burying your head in the sand and making what should be a public health issue into a criminal one, it's modern day puritanism.

Do agree with you Get Off My Cloud and have smoked about the same years as you, guess I'm about the same age too and yes I started smoking at 13 knowing it was bad for you.....The longer term Heath risks was no concern to me and being 40 seemed very old and distance ... If I lived my life again I honestly think I would still be stupid enough to do it again, not ever thinking I would still be addicted some 27 years later. In fact if I woke up tommrow at 20 I would go buy a pack of fags instead of this vaping crap.... Ha ha. But I'm not, I have two kids and the odds are not on my side anymore. Yes teenagers will be teenagers so the same ones that will try vaping will smoking, drugs, drink etc. in fact the more you suppress it the more it will become "cool" and desirable, think if it was around when I was a stupid rebelling teenager it would be too safe and boring. Though can a 13 year old in his school uniform walk into a sweet shop and buy 10 B&H? I could back then.... God help the local shop that sells cigarettes to one of my boys that are nearly that age, he will only ever do it once...! Vaping needs to be banned for unders 18s too because it does contain nicotine which I feel is very addictive and could be the same gateway to the 30 fags aday at 40/50/60 year old that every 13year old never imagines they will become. Vape for a few years, bored of that, fags are much easier when out drinking with your mates at 16. That's the only point I disagree with you on, nicotine, I keep reading here that it's not that addictive, I just don't get it. Is it even worth doing a poll of if we vape with nicotine or not, we all do and vaping with nicotine makes giving up smoking a walk the park compared to cold turkey.

Ah the good old days when the Ice cream van came rolling down the street and you had kids lining up to buy ice lollies and other kids lining up to buy the cheap loose ciggies he sells on the side and a 16th of hash

In all honesty i have no clue how easy it is for kids to get their hands on smokes now but i can't see any real reason to assume it's any harder than it was when i was a kid. It's not like it being illegal stopped certain people and places serving underage kids back then, maybe they're a little less common now but kids will soon suss out the places to go to get what they want and spread the word to their friends. And dammit why didn't i have a porno peddling video delivery guy
