I find the Subtank Mini a little on the warm side too, it is definitely a straight to lung type of tank (especially with the OCC heads) but I much prefer mouth to lung inhales which I now do with the Subtank.
I find that making my own 1.2 ohm coils (A1 Kanthal and organic cotton wool) on the RBA and OCC heads, and closing the airflow right down to half a single hole, gives a much cooler vape than the stock coils and although still a little on the warmer side, I am happy with it at 13-14 watts depending what juice i'm vaping.
I think maybe the difference between the stock coils that Kanger make and the coils I make comes down to the different wire and cotton wool used in each.

Had a subtank mini for a week or so and use it with the airflow pretty tight with a 2.1 ohm coil on the rba base (not used the stock coils) as I like higher ohms and it never gets hot or even warm at 10 - 11.5 watts. Really good atty imo.

On the DNA40 temp cuts in now and then at 20watts set at 430f... IMHO and with my coiling skills that's the a nice steady wattage for these single coil tanks unless you want a "hot" vape.

I had a hot hit on my subtank mini too, burnt the wick, made me choke. Then I noticed I had inadvertently turned it up to 50 watts..... Damn Smowell DPV-50 and no lock!!!!! Had to rewick! Other than that, me and mrs tim never have hot hits. She 'mouth to lung' vapes with stock heads (rebuilt now) too. It does like air though.

One persons warm is another's hot, that's part of the point of being able to adjust. The battery power is converted to heat via the resistance of the heating coil. More Power equals more heat, if it's too hot for you, can I suggest turning it down a bit. Well, I've had it on the lowest setting wattage for the 0.5 ohm coil and it was still too hot. A narrower drip tip and more airflow has cooled it down enough so that it's OK.

On what mod? Some of them won't fire below 3.7 volts, like the Cloupor mini. So you're actually vaping at a higher wattage.
