Joyetech eGrip USB Port Fix Or Battery Replacement Hi all,
I thought I'd do a small how-to on how I fixed my eGrip USB Charge Port.
- Remove the 4 screws from the base plate & remove.
- Remove the rubber Insulator from the top of the battery & de-solder the positive Yellow wire from the battery & the Red ground wire from the tube, you can de-solder the batteries Black negative wire from the PCB (it's difficult to get at) or you can cut it (which I did) & resolder (& Insulate) it when you replace the battery.
- Prise up the lug (it's just push fitted) which the Black wire is attached to the PCB, with a small screw driver.
- Remove the 4 screws from the top plate & 1 screw which is located inside the tube where the battery was.
- Remove the top plate & remove the tank.
- Remove the button (Set the dial to 20 watts, so you have a mark\position when you come to replacing it) gently pulling it outwards (I used long nose pliers with some insulation tape on the tips so not to damage the button)
- Remove the 2 screws on the plastic end of the PCB & slide the PCB out of the housing.
- Now you need a steady hand for re-soldering the USB Charge Port back on to the PCB & maybe a magnifying glass (possibly age dependant, I did :-) ) Mine had completely fallen off, if that's the case, you have got 2 joints which hold it to the PCB & 2 very small pins which feed the PCB, both of which are the outer pins (1 on each end, the 3 in the centre aren't used)
- Before you replace all the components back in the housing, plug a charger in the USB port & make sure you have the blinking LED under the button on the PCB.
- Once that was all done, I gave everything a clean & replaced all the components back in the housing.
- One modification I did before I replace the base, was to fit some fairly stiff rubber to help support the USB Port & hopefully stop it falling off in the future (design flaw)
- Finally all back together & working like the day I bought it :-)
Hope it helps anyone who's had the same problem, or just wants to replace the battery at some point.
If I've forgot something or not explained anything that you're not sure of, then just ask & I'll try to explain a bit more, or even show some more pictures!

Great guide!
Can you provide the battery specs? The battery on my eGrip OLED is going and I want to replace it. If anyone has a link to a compatible battery, please post

If anyone has a link to a compatible battery, please post Mike On hobby king there is a battery finder if you put in 1S (1 cell series) and make h & w < 20 you will only find a few sizes and it is probably about the closet you will get without Joyetech providing them. www.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store/multifinder.asp?t=lipowww.hobbyking.co.uk/hobbyking/store/RC_PRODUCT_SEARCH.asp?strSearch=round+lipoYou can work out the max amps by multiplying the C rate by the mAh and dividing by a thousand EG: 1500 mAh 15 C = 22.5 A 900 mAh 15 C = 13.5 A You can work out what the mod uses roughly by watts * 1.1 / 3.3 EG 10 W = 3.33 A 20 W = 6.67 A 30 W = 10 A

From my experience the 1200mah turnigys are the best youll get that will fit. I think the stated 1500mah of the egrips is a little over exaggerated TBH. EDIT:link changed uk warehouse.

Thanks guys. And any of these will work with the Variable W and V on the egrip? I ask because I notice the one you linked is 3.7v and my egrip goes up to 6v (although I never use it above 4.2) Sorry if that's a dumb question, I'm not a battery guy...

Yes, 3.7 is the nominal voltage that is common to the class of battery, they actually work from about 3 V up to (but not above) 4.2 V, 3.2 when flat, 4.2 when fully charged.

'turnigy' is a hobby king brand from what i learned whilst looking for lipos on the net. it turns out hobby king just re wrap generic lipos (but allegedly the better ones) in turnigy wrappers so it may well be the same battery?. Any body know what 4.51wh is in mahs? EDIT:Just found a converter on line and they are 1200mah.

Interesting cuz joytech advertises the egrip as 1500mAh. To your point above about the 1500mAh being exaggerated...

Does anyone know what type of port I would need to buy to replace one with broken pins? I know its a micro usb port, but I think there are different types.
