anyone used or know if samsung 30Q or lg mj1 are ok for mech mods? theyre 15a and 10a respectively i been vaping the old aw 18350 for a year and half and never go below 0.8ohms but got sick of visiting my charger 3 or 4 times a day so just switched to 18650 samsung 25r. im more interested in vapetime than high wattage/amps but want to play it safe.
thx

To play it sfe lets take a fully charged battery (4.25V should be the highest you'll face) with negligable resistance on the mod, and worst case error reading on your ohms meter (assuming a mod of some sorts with 0.1 ohm sensativity.
Inn this case you'll be drawing 6.1A. To allow for variations in manufacturing and aging allow about 20% and the worst case scenario is 7.3A (obviously not taking shorts into account)
So a 10A rated batery would be fine for this situation. I havent checked the cell data sheets, but if they are safe chemistry {INR or hybrid} and the discharge rates you quote are continous and not pulse then you will be fine.
In all honesty, almost everyone here will reccomend Samsung 25R or LG HE2 cells as they are proven to be safe, reliable and have decent life, but at the specs you quote, I'd plump for the 3100mAH 20A purple EFest cells.
EDIT *** Originally typed 2% overhead for a cell, gotta double check these posts after a few beers. The other typos are not critical so I left them, but the 2% to 20% typo could hurt someone. A useful reminder to myself and us all..edit ends***

Hey Ripshod, nice post.. I'm just wondering if I got a pair of Sony vtc's for my snowwolf should I only go up too 75w @.14 ohms or could I double the wattage and half the ohms? Or would you recommend better batteries for the job?

Or would you recommend better batteries for the job? If this is the 200 Watter then the best you'll get is the VTCs - and even then you should stay below 150Watts. Being a regulated mod the only time resistance matters is when/whether the mod will fire a coil. Sad fact is there's still no 18650 cells out there with a CDR higher than the VTCs, despite what the lables and the manufacturers will claim.

Yes that's the one, thanks a lot I will order a few now I wouldn't be going over 100w I doubt, I knew I would never need 200w but it's nice in temp control going up too 70w which is 10 more than the sx mini, I was just checking if I could go higher with dual batteries which you confirmed so thanks a lot once again, much appreciated:) another quick question I've got a pair of efest purple 2500mah which I have gone upto 50w so far is this safe?

gm111 if they're the Purple '35Amp' cells you're good for 100 Watts (they're rewrapped 20 Amp cells)

18350s added now. If I've missed any that haven't been suggested already give me a nudge What you see here are just the cells I recommend. I've gone through loads, and I've probably rejected ~60% of the full list due to chemistry, or poor performance - we all know that stuff can look good on paper, only to let us down when used.

Sorry Ripshod that I have not been back to look this thread for a week or so. Thats looking like an 'up to date' list to me. I have just had a look myself as I wanted to get a new pair for my Osmium Mod. Thinking of getting the Powerkeeper's as they are going to be used as a pair and 5000mAh and a pair capable of matching the single Sony vtc5 performance is what i need. Not to mention saving nearly £10 on the price of getting another pair of Sony's. Has the list been put into the 'Guides' section yet? or is it not quite ready? It looks 'good to go'.

It's not finished as yet hijack. There's a few newer cells to go in plus another section for 26650s. And thanks mmm, Powerkeepr. No doubt they're rewraps, I'll add in when I do the next update

Really good to see some attention to safe batteries whether here or on any forum. If you want to test any more 18650's, i have been looking at the samsung 30q & the LG HG2. I have a pair of the HG2's on their first cycle right now in a dual mech box, they are performing great & over July i'll make up my mind how good i think they are. They do look to me like they will knock the 25r off the shelf but as ever i value input from anyone who has the capacity to test them more technically. Not to be sniffed at
