Has anyone used this?
I thought it would be useful for me because my Laptop is running slow, apparently this can be because of too many unwanted files are being downloaded from the start-up, wondered how difficult/easy it would be to indentify unwanted programmes?

The safest and easiest way too clean up your windows installation is to:- 1. Check the add/remove programs section of the control panel and uninstallany programs you are sure you dont use. 2. Install ccleaner and run it to clean up all the junk files on your system. 3. Install and run defraggler to reorganise (defragment) your hard drive so files can br found and read / written faster 4. Install and run Malwarebytes antimalware to check for and remove hidden nasties that your anti virus may not find or be able to remove. If your system is still slow, go to start then Run (win xp) or the search box (windows 7) type msconfig and press enter. Go to the startup tab and find all the entries that are ticked. Post a list here and myself or someone else will be able to tell you what you can disable safely.

smells a but fishy to me.... not quite sure what you mean.. stuff like anti-virus s/w can check for updates at startup which is no bad thing, and needednt to declutter your startup run msconfig from the command prompt (search/run "cmd") and type in msconfig at the c:> prompt or use the taskmanager and click on the startup tab.. now you can unselect the system startup programs, leave things like audo and touchpad drives well alone, but feel free to remove things like google updator and adobe updater (use foxit rather than adobe reader for a much smaller footprint) use yur browsers own cleanup routines to clear the temp pages and cache.. a lot of 'free' software to improve your puter will in fact just add to the problem.. the thing you need to consider is all s/w developers consider their project to be the most valuable s/w yu gonna add to your puter SO its crucial it starts up with the puter and preloads all its settings and features ready for you to use em.. and it aint always the case..

Phoenix . from memory, you bought the same laptop as I did last year? Mine is still running superfast. I wouldn't touch Filebuster with a barge pole.

I don't know what is wrong with my laptop, I loose the sound at least once a month even though I don't do anything different, and it takes too long to connect to Google Chrome.

Phoenix . A while back I was also losing sound. I found it was due to a windows update KB2962407,, so I uninstalled it. Go to your control panel then click Programs, and then, under Programs and Features, clicking View installed updates (on the left). Then put in the search box B2962407 Then click on that update & then click uninstall.

forgive me but do you run your antivirus s/w for a regular scan, ccleaner and malwarebytes are both mentioned above, get em and run those scans weekly too.. there is also superantispyware the free version is good enough, (it will report 'tracking' cookies as a possible threat, while most sites use cookies with some embedded geo data so its nowt to get worried about, and let it wipe them.. ..) but you also need to run or schedule regular scans, the gatekeeping aspects of such tools are only so good, akin to doormen at a club, can spot most obvious threats, but well disguised threats can slip past especially those triggered by a random mouse click when not paying full attention... also check all the browser tools extensions and toolbars that have been installed, there are some great free s/w tools about but many come bundled in install packs that will also install toolbars and other 'useful clutter' if you dont pay full attention to message boxes and options offered when installing, you cant afford to just click ok n next without reading these days.. If after using the recommended tools and your antivirus scans and done some browser, startup, and installed program spring cleaning your not seeing a marked improvement. Im many cases a backup of data and files and such things as browser profiles to external disk/stick/card and do a reset to factory settings on the puter wiping it and reverting it to day one status... if you have to spend hours at the job, better make the job backing up the crucial data and files and let the puter sort itself out with a reset I have spent hours and hours eradicating one nasty sod of an infection in a system only to find another problem needing as much or more time to fix.. while a reset to factory settings takes 25-45 mins and an hour or 2 to set the user browser and s/w up.. also if considering the win10 upgrade, dont upgrade a system with problems happy puting..

Not quite the same screen shot but I found a search box, no luck as there was 'no file found to match your search'?
Back to the drawing board, I don't like having to do a Recovery every time the sound goes, must be an easier answer.
Thanks anyway Chrissie

Thanks anyway Chrissie Can you either do a screenshot of the page you found the search box or give me more info about it? Also, I've just seen that I missed the K off the update installation number - you need to search for & uninstall KB2962407 If you still can't find that one, try looking for KB2973201 as that update has also been known to cause audio problems.

So pleased to hear you have the sound back Whenever I have a problem, I just google it However, you do have to be careful about what answer/fix you use, especially if it concerns downloading something.
