I've just loaded a GPS app on my tablet, I'll be traveling to a country not covered by Tomtom, so thought I'd give it a test in London this morning, seems to work fairly well, got me to work and the road where office based is fairly obscure. They got maps for all over world, so worth a try for free. Link play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.navigator&hl=en_GBHope this is of help to others. MP

I've used Navigator in the past and found it very useful. On the plus side, the maps are downloaded to your device. The last thing you want when abroad is live maps downloading over a roaming connection. I eventually gave it up because I found it hogged my CPU and drained the battery at an alarming rate - the phone got red hot in the process. They may have fixed this in subsequent releases. Well worth a try though.

Try Waze as well, it's a brilliant idea.

Waze uses Google Maps, but I find that the Google version is nicer, not many people realise that there is a navigation option in Google, even less know that you can download the maps prior to travel, and it knocks spots off my wifes TomTom

Nice one, thanks for extra info, i'll give the google ones a try. Not worried about battery drain as be in car and can be on charge when mod is not.

You could be surprised... on a trip up country I had my phone on charge the whole journey 250 miles, the battery was almost flat when I got there, these apps take more power than the charger can give

Waze is just about the best one. Users upload the latest local traffic news - I've missed a few jams through it. Yes, it's worldwide
