Though the real secret with any great VC for me, is having the patience to let it steep, 4 weeks minimum . . . . my own I don't touch for 3-4 months at least. Which once you get into a mixing cycle isn't so difficult to do.

I have to add Grants to the list - I know many people think it's old hat, but the stuff is like crack to me!!

I've had many different custards before I started mixing and I do remember Charlies Devillicious custard and Dunfords Shorthorn as being 2 really good ones.

Going the diy route - I've been over a year now trying to perfect my own custard!! I'm nearly there - though saying that I'll still carry on buying GVC because I can't get near it in diy. I've tried adding so many things to give it that GVC taste from pear to apple cider vinegar!! It's been a loooong labour of custard love

Yep, Kreeds is definitely a very good recipe - after 7 weeks it became super tasty (it's really good after 3 weeks, but that extra steep makes it even better )

I'm with Perpetua - the longer you can leave a custard the better it will be.
