i run mine on the 1.2 coils at 18w with the 2 holes showing no spiting here.

My 'big' subtank (curiously called mini by Kanger) is a right spitty thing. The Nanos seem better.. but essentially they all don't like low power much.

I also use the 1.2 coil at between 15w and 18w (depending on juice), and get no spitting.
I have 2 subtank mini's, 1 I've never had a problem with and another that leaked like a sieve, especially when using the RBA deck.
I took the RBA deck out of it and used the OCC coils, but also gave it a good clean and changed the bottom O ring, which solved the leak problem.
Mostly though it sounds like you might be vaping at too low a wattage.
