First off Hi All i'm a newbie. Well kind of been coming here for months reading up and learning loads Truly fantastic site !!!!! Thanks for all your help x Ok here's the thing i tried to quit smoking with no avail been going to a smoking clinic anyway found the joy of vaping and never looked back !!!! Not had a cig for 2 months. Well my smoking clinic call the other week to see how i was getting on i told them id quit but didn't tell them about vaping. Anyway long story short went to see them and had a breath test for Carbon monoxide and to my surprise i had a really high reading of 11 when i smoked it was only 7ish she did it twice and then a week later and it was still high !!!!! i dont get it has anyone else had this ?? Thought i would be free of all the nasty stuff by now.

How was it tested - did they do a blood test or just clamp one of those blood oxygen meters onto your finger? The latter are good, but only if well calibrated. I haven't been tested since vaping, but I do notice I don't get so tired or out of breath. It is always possible that you have another source of CO in your environment e.g boiler or cooker - you can get little test strips from the hardware store to check for that (I've seen them in Wickes in the plumbing section).
I would be shocked and surprised if the CO was coming from vaping.

You breath into a breathalyser Dom, and 11 is not that high really, when I smoked it was in excess of 25ppm, every time, I was told you can get high readings from spending long times in cars, or walking along the road side.

Aaah, it's ppm (not percent). That makes more sense.

www.breathcotest.com/faq.aspup to 6ppm is usual levels for a non smoker, so it's not a major problem, could be other contributing factors like Dom said, especially if you live in an area of dense traffic.

You don't get any carbon monoxide from e cigs. It's either what the others have said or a faulty machine!

Thanks guys. It is weird for me. See ive been doing them on and off for years and i kind of worked out ways to cheat them lol if i was naughty and smoked i knew if i didn't smoke for 3 hours befor the test it would always be negative well for me that would be between 0 and 2. I know you can get carbon monoxide from other places but have alarms at home all clear their i dont drive and its a short walk to the clinic.my next test is next week just going to see if its going up ect. Its funny the lady keeps saying its ok to have a laps just take one day at a time. Might just come clean next visit. i'll let you know how it goes. P.S cheat only works if you have only smoked one cig that day then wait 3 or so hours eg dosn't work if you have smoked more befor hand.

Hey, don't let it put you off vaping, there is no evidence at all to suggest there is any carbon monoxide in vapour. And take it at your own pace, if you feel like you have to have the odd one, that's completely up to you... They have a great saying here, it's not the cigarettes you have that count, it's the ones you don't have! Every time you don't have a cigarette, you've done yourself a favour.

So for the bnext one have a nasty just before (act all apologetic and say you lapsed). The time after that bask in the glow of praise for your low readings
