Since the demise of the istick 50 I have been using the M65 pretty exclusively. I have just noticed (and it may have been there before) a whine when the usb cable is charging. As soon as the cable is removed it stops.
Has anyone else experienced this...and should I be worried?
Nick

I've always been told to never charge via USB. Not sure exactly why as I had an 30w istick for ages that could only be charged that way. I always use an external charger now though.
Only thing I can think of is maybe the charger you are using is putting out to many amps. 0.5 or 1 amps is best for your batteries.

I probably need to get an external charger Nick

are you using a mains adaptor plug for the usb or a pc ?
I've had several mains usb charging adaptors go bad due to the power fluctuations that we experience and the biggest sing there on the way to going bang is starting to whine when charging a device, my solution was to get a couple of 4 way surge protected power bars and that has slowed down the rate of them getting destroyed by the power fluctuations and removed any whine when charging stuff.

nanotm It just a personal thing - I won't risk my computer. USB ports do go wrong, so I just prefer not to take the risk. I just don't want to turn my computer into a £800 battery charger. I know lots of people that do charge via their PC without any problem. I also get quite a variable supply and also use surge protected power bars. I am pretty convinced I lost an external hard drive to a surge. Nick

yeah I run my pc through a UPS the usb port I use for charging is on a multi card reader adaptor then again I also run a power bar off the ups for things like my phone charger router home phone tablets etc so they last longer than pluged into the mains as well perhaps that's overkill but given the power fluctuations recently i'd rather be safe than sorry, that also means if I get another brownout or power cut my pc gets enough time to shut down and the phone and internet still works for another few hours (although the beeping off the ups is seriously loud) in theory it can run for 72 hours with minimal load and zero mains power which is longer than the fibre cab supplying the phone /internet lol
