I gave it a go, I suspect he'll not welcome it.

My MP said this... I agree, but our membership of the EU limits what our own Parliament can do. That's why we need a referendum so we can recover control of our destiny without being shackled to the interfering EU! Which party MP wrote this? a conservative MP.

My answer
Thank you for contacting me about e-cigarettes.
I recognise that e-cigarettes have been the subject of much debate in recent years both domestically and at EU level. I know that Government policy on e-cigarettes is to enable the availability of such products which meet the appropriate standards of safety and quality in order to support people quitting smoking and to reduce the levels of harm caused to smokers and those around them.
The use of e-cigarettes in public places is not subject to regulation and there are no plans by the Government to change this. I believe that some employers and owners of establishments and venues have chosen to prohibit the use of e-cigarettes on their premises.
As you may know, EU member states have formally adopted the Tobacco Products Directive which introduces a number of safeguards to ensure that e-cigarettes are properly regulated and the Government is now working to implement these new regulations. I am glad that the Government has recently banned the sale of e-cigarettes to under 18s to protect children from nicotine addiction and the unknown risks of using e-cigarettes to developing lungs.
The Government will continue to review all the available evidence when devising future policy.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
With best wishes

that line about eu states formally accepting the tpd is a joke, some unelected shills created and handed a new document to the president who signed it and it became a directive, member states then had 24 months to domestically enact it or be fined for failing to do so ..... and now theres an amendment that followed the exact same route into being with the proviso we can alter it to fit our nation or enact it as drafted by the EU ....not exactly voting for it then

yeah but the eup is not member states voting for something to happen is it, that would require each of our national assemblies taking a vote to agree to it prior to the directive getting issued

Just got what was clearly a copied and pasted reply from my MP. Which did not address the issues I raised.
I already knew she was an oxygen thief so this was no surprise.

Can you remember what you asked them to do? I've seen a reply to another vaper, when he followed up his c+p first reply which all but admitted that the actual MP hadn't even seen the first letter.

The points raised were: Anti-democratic nature of TPD. Lack of any assessment of impact Banning of basically everything on the market
Increasing minimum pack size of cigarettes.
Response: copy and paste crap not addressing the issue. Unfortunately the SNP is very pro-Europe.

We're learning that unless the letter actually asks the MP to do something specific then some seem to be handled by assistants (ecig letter? Send them this). That's why the website suggests an "ask" - even if its really convoluted. Its there to open up dialogue. Tbh I really struggled coming up with an "ask" that was doable by the MP that could help us. I'm sure mine isn't the best! If you reply saying that he failed to address some of your points AND asking him to do something (within his power), you MIGHT get a better response.

I asked mine to request amendments ot the TPD's definition of what constitutes a tobacco product and ask for a separation of the tanks /batteries that are not cig-a-likes which are not exclusively for use with things containing nicotine and also for the non- nic juices to be redefined as a food product so they can be dealt with by existing legislation and regulatory bodies, also to request that the scare mongering being perpetrated by official public bodies be ceased forthwith and that clear concise information that is peer reviewed and valid be used to inform the public, since currently they are driving people away from a safer product to one that kills 50% of its consumer base prematurely, furthermore that they vote down the current advertising bans unless they specifically pertain to cig-a-like products as the likes of PMI/BAT/JPI don't need any more help to kill competition than they are already getting from so called public health advisors.
apparently its bene passed to the DoH for a response I wonder if anything useful will come of it .....
