GRRRRRRrrrrrrrr........................... I moved a load of Pictures taken of my Grandson on his first Xmas plus other photos, films taken with the phone and Music files out of the internal storage on my HTC One M8 to the external SD card and they've all disappeared into the LOST.DIR OK, I'm pretty computer savvy i thought, it must be relatively easy to recover them I thought, WRONG I tried renaming them and adding a file extension guessing which were .jpg's & .MP3 files but no success. I downloaded a program recommended of of the Android Forums called TrIDNet and it does not work, it did not even identify any of the files. I've tried a couple of the "free" professionally written software one called ILike Android Data Recovery Pro seems to work right, it identifies the files and you can see previews but wants $70 for the full version to actually recover the files. I downloaded another one called Asoftech data Recovery where you connect your phone, but the phone needs to be rooted, mine is not. Does anyone know of some good software that I can use to recover my files especially the one's of my little Grandson's first Christmas TIA

@zuza Thank you for answering but this was the first thing i tried, it does not work. I followed the thread on AndroidForums.com about renaming the files I have 3gb of music & pictures mainly with a few phone films thrown in for good measure and randomly picking a file and renaming it and changing the file extension just does not work.

One last thing the files are NOT deleted just put into the lost.dir folder without any extensions.
