Having owned an iPhone for the last 3 and a half years, last week I upgraded to a new Samsung S6 and I have to say that it knocks spots off the iPhone in almost every respect. Charging time is radically reduced, the screen is bigger and has loads more clarity, and above all it's great to be outside the clutches of the 'i' machine in all respects. If I want something Android-based, I simply download it, no hassle and quicker too. Would I swop back to an iPhone? Not at the moment, as this new phone does everything I want it to do efficiently and cheaply.7 The best thing is that I am saving £10/month on my plan and I think I have a better phone in the process.

Seems as if it is a security measure to stop stolen phones from circumventing the fingerprint lock. What is strange is that they don't warn people, and what happens to those where there is no official Apple dealer. I have used Apple products for well over ten years but some of their actions are increasingly weird - I don't want a thinner phone! Having said that the computers are stellar. My mum still uses my old G4 Powerbook (IBM CPU)that is about 10 years old, and I my daughter still uses a 2009 iMac daily. chykensa my wife loves her S6, they are just too big for me though, I am looking at replacing my 3-and-a-half year old iPhone5 at the moment. I haven't yet found a suitable android 4" phone yet, might have to get get a 5S.

I just don't update my apple products anymore. My iphone 6 still runs ios 8 that it came with. Every time apple produce an update it screws something up so I just don't bother anymore.

@kopiert - I did wonder if my phone was going to be too big, but the benefits of the larger screen and lighter device have more than made up for this. I have activated the fingerprint activation on the screen lock, and it is really great. All in all, I am delighted with this new machine, it's much better on battery life (although my 4S was nearly 4 years old!), and I am glad I have returned to the Android fold; my first smartphone was an HTC Desire, some 5 years ago, and I was gutted when it got lost, never to reappear.

I haven't liked apple for several years in the mobile arena, they pulled similar stunts ever seince the iPhone 2 came out even to the point of remote bricking phones because people had the wrong version of software on them ....
in the pc arena they have been doing it for much longer with proprietry interface connedctros so cheaper non apple supplied things couldn't be used with their pc's. and its this single build policy that has seen them grab a marketing ploy to coverup the fact they cant program very well, take for instance other iterations of the same graphics manipulation software, on windows or other version of .nix it will work to the same or slightly leser degree based on the hardware someone put into their system, Dell realised this back in the late 90's and started to copy appl's ideas introducing Dell specific mobo's with junk ideas like Rimbus and agx (variation of agp connector) they lost customers in droves and canned it for non corporate systems.... individuality works much better than everything being the same, it also allows for competition in the market and so whilst apple captured the simplistic end of the market with excellent marketing drivel and high end flashy campaigns they make inferior products and then overcharge for them....
i like android to a point, its simple to understand easy to use and give great choice but upgradeing the OS is nigh on impossible on devices leaving you open to attacks or shelling out a lot more cash for a newer version (often on the same hardware with a different colour case) sure if your a code wiz then you can sort it yourself... which is rather like all pre 2012 versions of .nix..... windows has always been somewhat more difficult to use with learning curves that are quite steep in comparison (which is why windows 8/8.1 were such a disaster although the tablets/phones worked well with it unlike with the older C.E. type products) tablets had been around since the mid 90's but only really became popular after apple did a monster marketing campaign claiming it to be a totally novel /new product and had them featured in every tv show for months before that (clever social engineering) despite the fact many companies had been producing touch screen devices for a long time (hell the transformer/twist products are all just lightweight copies of the Panasonic /Toshiba devices from the late 90's)
but what really grips is the way they screw up their own hardware every time they push out an update to the O.S. ever since they introduced the child safety features in IOS4 (the first time they actually worked) they have broken them with every update pushed to devices, they deliberately cripple non apple software on their devices (where its available on other platforms) and claim the competitor makes inferior products ...... hopefully the current market price devaluation going on continues at devalues them back to the point of no return (which realistically should have happened several years ago when they were found guilty of several corrupt practices but the appeals are still pending on those cases so they haven't had to actually pay up yet) there are plenty of decent manufacturers out there who can make better products at a fraction of the retail price apple charges (early learning center or leapfrog spring to mind) and function better for the average person than apple's junk does

Apple. I use their computers. I don't pay for them. The world has gone a bit mad when we are close to 45% of all phones (UK) being iPhones. You can tell what I think. I DO think this is very dodgy though. Thanks for the heads up.

I'm looking at the S6 at the moment as my S3 is living on borrowed time due to a occasionally faulty charging port. I buy my phones SIM free as i use a GiffGaff SIM as it suits my needs. What i don't get is: Two weeks ago CPW selling the S6 at £349 Two days later £399 and this week £419, and still saying cheapest on the web! Well it's not, Amazon selling for £369 And why the price increase and no drops when the S7 is a week away from being unveiled, makes no sense.

X&Ymaking the most of current stocks before the new model hits the shelves, you will notice all phones do similar things, after having the s2 a few years ago I got the Lumia 1020, since then i have stayed away from feature phones and would rather get the more budget versions like the Lumia 550 (I like the sync between desktop/tablet and phone) which offer most of the stuff the higher end phones do for a fraction of the price, this isn't the case with android phones and apple doesn't do anything on the cheap .....

Last year I googled 'best cheap budget smartphone' after dropping a less than £100 smart phone in Lidl Best thing I ever did!!!! Ended up with an asus zenfone 5 for £120 - I love it - I can get cases for it and if it lasts me 2 years I'm happy (even now same phone retails for about £100) My google came up with india sites and south african sites. A little home work needed but still... You so don't need the 'latest smartphone' like you don't need the 'latest vapes' There is a world out there beyond apple and samsung JAne

The millennium bug did exist after all, seriously though killing premium price products 16 years later
