toots - Basically that sucks Guess you are on the lookout for a smartphone then. To be honest, as long as your not playing games on them or using gps functions etc the battery life isn't as bad as it sounds. Still a pain to have to fork out for one just for this. I've ordered two (one for hubby) of these: Landvo Smartphone only 60 dollars, damn site cheaper than buying them over here I can tell you Will only be used for making calls and texting (and of course receiving bank security codes ) so hopefully the battery won't need charging every day.

I love Android. Keep your brain in place (don't open/download stuff) and it's a safe as anything else. I know what this thread is about, although I've not read the article. Thanks for the heads-up though.

CM security is a brilliant app to download. Anti virus with performance and battery managment tools too.

I ask because they implemented something similar in the UK some years back and along with monitoring your phone account they lock you out of online banking if you order a replacement sim until visiting the local branch to confirm who you are and why you got one as well as only allowing the number to be updated by sending the push message to the old phone for the security code unless you go in branch with your passport and bank card (in which case it takes up to 14 working days)... I've had some form of smart phone for over 10 years though so I wasn't inconvenienced massively when they brought it in but a few people moved bank because of it only to find other major banks are now doing the same thing... apparently push messaging is faster and a lot cheaper than text messages, so I would check your chosen phone can receive such messages, if you get really stuck to find something compatible then Argos are doing the Lumia 435's for £50 sim free most weeks, failing that amazonuk have people flogging second hand phones for under £30, they use the same charging lead as most mods do (micro usb) and can be charged off the same adaptors since most second hadn stuff comes as nothing but the handset.... theres nowt wrong with second hand smartphones either, if it comes with any data on it just hit the factory reset option and then start from scratch with setup, also if your getting an android phone you will find you need a gmail account for it to function fully, as to the security software there's loads of it offered for free in the google play store the reviews will tell you which stuff is actually any good or not

And I haven't got a clue what you're talking about re 'push message' Gould I hope Barclays in the UK don't start it as well. Hubby and I both still have accounts with them and if anything goes wrong I can't see us flying over there to get it sorted

tootspush is a type of data message, it shows up on the phone like a normal text message but its created and transmitted in a different way, sometimes there "hidden" network update messages that don't show up as they used to in the past (in the past we got a text message that had to be read then deleted and the phone switched off/on to implement) the new version is more convenient for both users and network operators (they can be sent from anywhere in the world without extra costs) if you do online banking it pays to have your mobile registered, if you bank with Barclays then it could be worthwhile updating that info with them as an overseas customer because its likely they will move away from the stupid calculator thing in the not to distant future and its best to be prepred before it happens

My awnser is don't have a smartphone, ditched mine years ago because of the poor battery life, don't need to be tied to charger everyday (thats for the Istick lol). I now have a £50 dual sim basic phone, does job and only charge it once a week. MP We haven't got smartphones but our online banking now requires that we have them in order to carry out transactions online. This is a new thing so I went to our bank last week and asked the bank manager what we were supposed to do as we don't own any smartphones and she said "you'll have to buy them" I couldn't believe that the bank was literally making us buy smartphones or do away with our online banking facility. What is the world coming to I've now ordered 2 cheap ones from China (FT) as they are sooooooo expensive over here. Will use eset smart security to protect them. Already spoken to eset as they already cover my computer and my 'ol man's laptop so it won't cost too much more to put the 2 phones on my licence apparently. Got no idea how these smartphones work, how to set them up or anything lol. Am an old timer when it comes to a phone, just dial up and speak, send the odd text now and then haha. Our company account was with HSBC and basically in the end they were saying if we did not bank online they could not handle our account we switched to Natwest, telling them we did not want online banking, but we ended up with internet access just to check payments in, what they did not tell me was the the £22.50 a month just to access this and now everytime theres a problem they tell me I should have done it online, despite the fact that two weeks ago the whole system was out of order for the whole day, banks seem to think you work for them, despite the fact they sitting on your money. Rant over lol. MP
