Hi guys was wondering if there's any safety issues or anything in general I should know about using stainless steel for making coils? I'm a fairly experienced vapour. Have used most types of wire for building. Just never SS. Can't find much useful info online about it. Is it safe enough with any vw device? Or is there a particular mod with a SS function of sorts?
TIA Laurie

SS is generally a temp control wire for use with mods with both a TC feature AND a SS profile.
however its not like Ni or TI which if used without a TC mod can overheat and burn giving of toxic vapour
But as its resistance will change with heat it might not be suitable for standard VW/VV devices

SS can be used in temp control or power modes. After a week with SS316L I prefer power.
A mod that supports SS or custom TCR values is need to use the wire in temp control mode.

I've been using ss for ages but found it too variable for TC. Had Nife30 coils in almost a week and they performing very well

Thanks guys. Can anyone recommend a descent mod that has the SS function? What sort of size do you want, xtc263? Single or double 18650, or something with a built-in battery? Any idea what sort of wattage you will be running? Budget? Sorry for all the questions, but it might help us point you in the right direction!

Thanks guys. Can anyone recommend a descent mod that has the SS function? Reuleaux RX200 (Triple 18650 though). With latest firmware has an SS pre-set as well as variable memories that can be set to SS temp calibration.

Its worth knowing what SS wire you are going to use? SS comes in 304/316/316L/317L/340. For the evic mini, the built in SS mode is SS316, so I use the TCR mode to use SS316L correctly.

Joyetech confirmed to me they tested the mini with 304 But I find 317L works fine I think because the TCR's are very similar on most ss

Problem I have with this is that my SS build keeps switching itself to power mode. Booooo I had this with one early build but whatever I am doing now seems to work fine. I think my current coil is .5 317L SS about 8 wraps on a 3.5mm jig. It is .5ohms anyway.
