Bit of a worry the guy doesn't notice they are 3 series 2 parallel configuration when he opened the pack, 3 pairs in series so the one next to each other will be the same voltage, but very bad advice to just change two as they will all share the same charge & discharge current. If you are ever in this situation replace all the batteries or even better the battery pack.

yahoo2u2funny thing is that's not even extraordinary practice, hp charge £95 for the laptop battery pack that contains less than £25's worth of parts including the plastic blow moulded case, several years ago I swapped out the 18650 cells (dodgy Panasonic ones) and replaced them with equivalent Samsung cells, but just in case I broke something I had also ordered an non hp oem spare(£30) as it turned out the oem unit was in fact a HP one with the same Panasonic cells just without the 12 month warrenty, (needless to say I doctored that one with Samsung cells and ended up with a spare pack) those two packs lasted me several years and only died recently, in comparison I had an asus laptop with an almost identicle makup which they charged an eye watering £225 for (I spend £20 on new cells and a bit of glue where I had broken the plastic case forcing it open) again for less than £25's worth of parts...... I belive the industry terms is "leveraging the brand market" rather like spending £50 on a bench t-shirt when you can buy the same t-shirt for £4 from primark and apply the same logo via a t-shirt transfer (and it will probably last longer than the original printed logo on the genuine article) you pay for the name not for the product /

They now seal the packs so you have to break it apart to change the batteries on most laptops.

yeah true and I missed the glue bit the last one I repaired in the summer just gone I used a heat gun and an oven glove to unseal it, but that can be dodgy when there made with cheap cells that aren't thermally stabilised and might not be fully discharged ....
