People using 'of' where it should be 'have' I'd bring capital punishment back for this.

Bad speeling especially when there is a big red line underneath it to tell you you have speelt it incorrectly, there, their & they're used incorrectly, I've got to the stage now where I just ignore it though, unless someone says "did I spell that correctly?" - usually on harder words

Bobahh the red line thing doesn't work all the time, type out a couple of words and after about 10 words delete 5 of them and everything after that will have a red line under it 90% of the time, the only way to unbug that is to reload the page and that doesn't work all the time especially if it was a longer post .... sometimes the auto correct picks the yank spelling for things (depends on the website) it can be a complete monster of a job and the browser doesn't "learn" very well. I almost always misspell certain words can the auto correct almost never knows what the correct spelling is /

I almost always misspell certain words can the auto correct almost never knows what the correct spelling is / they are a lot of work for us dyslexics, I normally have to turn spell checking off and on again because it stops working (with fire fox), often have to google it's suggestions to know which one I want and often have to google my guess as the smell checker doesn't offer anything suitable. But once you have got through all that you sill insert the missing words and fix the order of words in your head when prof reading, sentence structure has gone to pot because you had to works so hard with the smell checker and they didn't teach you it a school in the bottom set for English. Top set for Maths and all the Sciences but they still didn't pick up on my dyslexia and I left school believing that anything involving word was closed to me. I got tested at Uni on my late twenties, they among other things 30 point IQ drop for sequencing, it was one of the most positive things I have ever done for myself, I knew I was dyslexic, but now I have permission to read, write and spell imperfectly without embarrassment and mentally giving the finger to any perceived stigma.

nanotm That's why I tend to ignore most of them these days, yank spellings is another pet hate unless it is by a Yank, I put it down to the way youngsters are taught these days, mobile phones etc and too much influence by the USA, really need to get back to the basic 3R's ( which was an incorrect saying anyway ) but you know what I mean, I was never very good at grammatical speech, but was definitely taught good spelling when I was a nipper. PS Knew I had seen that Tag before

Some of us just cannot be taught good spelling Bob, like some people are tone deaf or colour blind the best we can do is learn to cope with it and don't let it get us down. Like everything it has it's positives it mad me a lot more self reliant in learning and problem solving and can be entertaining. Recently gave lots of you a good laugh when I thought I wrote "give the coils a gentle clean" and the smell checker thought "give the coils a genital clean" was much funnier, so did I just didn't realise until lairey mentioned it the weekend after at the Prestleigh meet. (my guess was gental and you don't get offered gentle by the spell checker, I have to go to google). This is not a rant or even a mild complaint, there's no point in crying about it it is what it is , just a view of what it's is like on the other side of the fence. And not at you either Bob a lot of other fine people share you view.

Totally agree, that's why I gave up worrying about it, there are a lot of people these days that have problems, I was asked to leave grammar because they thought I would not make the grade, so I did without any qualifications, only to find out later that my problem was; I couldn't read the blackboard as my eyesight was going but nobody picked up on that until I was in my 20s, too late for me to do anything about it, except get some glasses.

VapingBad have you been spying on my life that long or did you just have a near identical start to life ? of ocurse i am sure that my teachers at school were fully aware of my condition, they had some consultant come to the school and made me sit tests (apparently being bored and sleeping in lessons was bad) the school probably wanted a diagnosis (for extra funding) my parents gave me a week of school while they kicked up merry hell about me being "experimented on" (some sort of delusional psychosis about a label = defective and not having one = fine) taught myself the coping strategies and finally learned what was wrong with me after an expensive accident (equipment damaged only) at work, spent 18 months initially going through all sorts of nonsense to keep my job then spent the next 12 years being yanked out of work to undertake stupid assessments and other time wasteing happy clappy hippy ideas.... still i was obviously good at my job because even when i couldn't do the basic physical stuff they were trying to find ways to keep me.... also i might be crap at English and unable to learn another language but i can often understand the meaning of various translation errors
