Hi guys, Will be building my first dual coil on a Steam crave aromamizer Velocity deck in the next few days and just trying to figure what are the best options. I have been playing with Steam engine this afternoon and I seem to have multiple options with the wire I have bought. I am looking to build a dual coil either 0.4 or 0.5 ohm or there about. I have 24,26,28 Kanthal to play with and can get similar results with between 6 - 8 wraps and 2mm - 3.5mm ID which bring the ohms out between 0.4 and 0.5. I guess the question is, what would be the better option to go for to get good results/flavor? and do I go big or small on the ID?? Thanks for any info guys and I have read up a lot already but nothing like hearing from someone that does this regularly and knows their stuff

Is it the aromamizer RDTA that you have?

The deck on the Aromamizer is pretty small i wouldn't go for anything larger than a 2.5mm inner diameter. 7 or 8 wraps per coil on a 2.5mm rod with 26 gauge will get you the resistance you are shooting for.

7 wraps of .4mm kanthan around a 3mm former gives the best results for me, the 3mm internal diameter allows for adequate cotton to supply lots of juice , the .4mm kanthal doesn't take ages to heat up, the 7 wraps allow a good surface area to vaporise the juice, this is my build and that's the reasons why, but I'm sure others will have different opinions

That's what I am wondering, although read that it could squeeze a 3.5 ID horizontally. Is wicking any better or worse with the size difference in ID? Just trying to make a good start first then will tweek as needed and get some practice in until I start trying anything fancy

I have no wicking probs with 2 mm horizontal coils, though I am using 100% PG. I have used 2.5 & 3 mm but the heat up and cool down are too slow for me, keep the coils high, I now just use the top connection holes so ther are no legs to get hot. This is an old pic I use 9 wraps now, if using fine twisted sanding the screw tips helps.

I understand that all RTA/RBA's will produce different results, but same coil build should produce similar results in a similar RBA?? or am I talking tosh lol

Looks very nice that I will try some other lower and higher ohm builds later on down the line once I get used to building coils I am used to atm and think it's a good idea using only the upper posts for mounting the coils too All my juice is 50/50 so will be thinner as well. Also any real difference or benefit to running either horizontal or vertical at all? Think I will try some horizontal for now and see how I get on

Is it the aromamizer RDTA that you have? Sorry, yes matey RDTA As stated above, 3mm ID coils, I personally don't go any thinner in this attie As VapingBad showed in his pic - build them coils high, when the air goes in through the air holes it seems to go straight up If you're feeling adventurous then I use 11wrap .3 ID 29guage nickel coils in mine Remember, the thicker the wire then the longer it takes to heat up and the more initial power required to get them going.

I found the vertical too airy, but I think I had the coils too far in and I think you need fatter coils for that which put my off, but many prefer it, it is important to trim the top of the wick so it is only a couple of mm above the coil. The rewicking doesn't get any simpler or easier that these in horizontal for a dual coil tank just cut so they just touch the deck and fold down.

It has no problem with the wick keeping up with a 2.5mm ID coil, i've even thrown in 2mm ID coils and it's kept up fine.

Yep, as Get Off My Cloud said horizontal coils do restrict the airflow a bit, luckily for me its spot on for a slow-med lung inhale I like and I don't need the rubber afc ring, if you like really fast inhales vertical may be a better bet.

Thank you guys, that is all very helpful and will try 2.5 and 3 ID horizontal builds first My 26awg wire is coming with the RDTA in the next few days so will give that a whirl. Just checked 24awg wire with 2.5mm ID, 7 wraps comes in at 0.3 ohm in dual coil which seems ok as well, but would that ramp up very slowly compared to the 26awg options above? Hopefully I will find a use for the 28awg wire as I just got 75 meters of the stuff today

26 AWG works well that is the gauge of Ti and NiFe30 I use in them (9 wraps 2 mm ID), for Ni200 and SS I am using 3 strands of 32 AWG (0.2 mm) twisted which comes out about the same as does 2 strands of 0.25 mm twisted again 9 wraps 2 mm ID.
