Yeah, I've read about wrapping the ceramic in cotton to feed it....I suppose so long as You don't actually stick the cotton/silica/rayon/mesh/hemp/tampon liner et al up thru' the middle of the actual coil itself then probably not much of the 'flavour characteristics' of the other wicks imparts to the ceramic..(?...)
