violetblade both Netgear & TP-Link do good switches, I have a 5 port Netgear downstairs and a 16 port TP-Link upstairs, they are very useful for sharing out a single LAN port on the router amongst the various items that need connecting these days. Both of those should suit your needs (although like me you might need a bigger one later on )

Thank you Bob I'll go with the tp link one then as it's almost half the price. I really only need 1 extra port atm but going for the 8 gives me more for expansion later altho I am now thinking of getting 2 one for downstairs and one for upstairs to save the kids moaning the wifi is rubbish all the time

The other option would be a Wifi extender, I prefer a wired connection where possible, much more stable for multiple devices.

Oh those are good I have a set in my bedroom but at £40 a go I think my cheaper option is to fit a ethernet switch upstairs there is already an ethernet cable going up so it wouldn't involve any work either it would just be plug and play but thank you for the suggestions Edit these aren't the same as my bedroom ones mine are powerlines but not the wifi bit they plug in downstairs and plug in upstairs and give me an ethernet connection. These are what I have accessories.talktalk.co.uk/product_details.aspx?idProduct=27
