Probably the 1st china mod i've seen where they haven't slapped a ridiculous premium on it for the wood.

Me likey. Goes to show how much other manufacturers make on slab wood stuff. I've seen some beautiful slab wood and some which offends my eyes so it's down to the luck of the draw if you get an aesthetically pleasing one but that might be part of the fun

That's true but most of the stab wood stuff to date has been made by small workshops or even individuals in small numbers.
Due to the physical constraints on the amount of product they can produce they need to maximise profit on each unit hence the high price, very little of the high cost is actually down to the material used and is more to do with how many units they can produce.
What i have seen recently though is China factories which obviously are mass producing products charging similar prices to small producers, i do expect a higher price because of the material used but the premium these factories are putting on their mass produced products is way over the top.
