Mass produced, I would only ever buy from China. We have a good idea of the quality. UK mass produced - I would expect it to be worse quality than China. Clones are a gamble.
The only quality atty I ever lusted after was one by Rocket Scientist. I followed him (across the road) from the day his equipment arrived. Eventually the second hand price came down and now I have my handmade, precision engineered genny.
When I first vaped there was no quality at the cheap end. I started with a middle market and middle quality DID - about seventy quid delivered. Then along came UD. The Chinese have been good to us.

Ummmm - isn't this the same question that could be applied to pretty much any consumer good? Furniture, cars, electrical goods and appliances? For all of them there are a range of prices and qualities available. A good portion of each of those markets are very price sensitive but there are some folk who'll be more concerned about other aspects such as exclusivity, uniqueness, performance, durability, quality and such.
I don't think it's only a price vs quality issue either. I also look for reliability/durability when selecting goods - be they cars, furniture, electronic goods or vaping gear. I want my stuff to last and I will pay more for that.
But as I look over the range of cheapish Chinese made vaping gear that litters my table, I s'pose I gotta admit to buying from the cheaper end of the market.
But surely, as others have already said, isn't there room for all in an unregulated free market?
** Although Vaping is not always an unregulated free market is it? *grin*

If it aint cheap it would have to be Greek. The best vape gear comes out of greece IMO. Well you certainly get more parts for your money ... the Ithaka springs to mind lol

The UK's strength is in banking/finance ... We are all but finished as a large scale manufacturing country on the world stage. Any serious attempt to take on the Chinese in the mass production of vape gear would be doomed to failure. The op makes reference to the odd bit of rubbish supplied by Fasttech but I would bet that he is referring to "styled" clones. Fasttech and the other Chinese retailers will sell whatever they think we want and the manufacturers will make it. If you stay with the larger Chinese manufacturers like Innokin, Kangertech, Joytech/Eleaf etc, you very rarely will be disappointed regarding quality and price.

I am lucky to have a @windows mod and it is so much better than the mass produced mods about, saying that I still use them all the time and the windows mod is my special treat mod and will never leave my house. I am also lucky enough to own a @windows mod...to me it is the Rolex of mods...& I would never part with it

The thing is, that "quality" is very subjective once a certain minimum of build is achieved. For example, we have four kamry 30 v2's in our house, two in use and two spare. Mrs.G-J has dropped hers no end of times onto concrete/paving slabs and its still going strong, so to me thats quality, and it only cost about £14. On the other hand, an istick that was dropped in the same place only took three or four goes to break, so to me thats not quality. These days there is enough cheap good quality stuff out there for most of us, and also enough high-cost "quality" for the collector/conneseur types... each to their own and live and let live

When you have something of quality you can tell the difference, not in the vape though - a cloned attie will vape every bit as good as a genuine item and a well designed cheap tank will vape extremely well. You can find the difference in the quality of materials, the threading when you screw the parts together and of course when you use better quality materials they will last a lot longer. When it comes to regulated mods then it will come down a lot to the chip/board used, cheap boards are simply not as accurate as a decent DNA or Provape unit. There are many that are not far off like the smok board and closely following joyetech board but you can still feel the difference in the way the power is delivered. In saying all that, I have more than my fair share of high end gear but the problem with them is that better designs are continuously being created rendering your superb high quality vaping device obsolete. When you take that into account then longevity isn't quite so important. Despite all the quality gear I own I honestly use the cheaper gear much more, I use the egrip for MTL when i'm out and about or at work because it performs extremely well with the juice that I vape and it is extremely pocketable. The CL coils are insanely easy to rebuild and I carry a couple of pre-built spares which all in all provide me with hassle free vaping. And also when I'm out and about I use a dual coiled mage attie or a baby beast with rba deck on an RX75, again it's extremely pocketable and potent enough to keep me satisfied. Indoors I use my @windows DNA200 squonker with a tsunami 24 or the smok TFV8 on a kooper primus or rx200 or dna200 realeaux. The TVF8 is a superb direct lung attie, I doubt it will last more than a couple of years but by then the next greatest cheap china attie will be released so it really makes no sense to spend out on quality that will still look like new long after you've stopped using it. If your vaping habits remain uniform and you're happy with the gear that you use then it makes sense to buy quality- it will last If you're vaping habits change constantly then it makes sense to buy cheap- you'll be replacing it long before it gives out

There will always be a market for both. And both work fine.
For me...vaping is a tool for me to get my nic hit. So i cannot spend the money that some do on high end mods and tanks that ultimatly give you the same result.
Im being a hypicrit here as for things like clothes, cars etc...i DO spend money on high end stuff.

If I had the money I would buy many high end, hand made, beautiful mods. Unfortunately I don't so most of my collection are mass manufactured. If I could have bought them in the UK at the same price I would have
