Perpetua you said in your post above about giving the nic a good shake, ive been told not to shake it as it introduces air which degrades it. Have i been miss informed ? I haven't heard or read that before Grandad , but I don't pretend to be the authority on nicotine . . . . it seems reasonable to me though that if a bottle of liquid has been frozen/thawed that the contents would benefit from being shaken to ensure everything is as mixed as it can be. I don't doubt that there are different schools of thought on the subject as in all things and will provide some discussion in the coming months. It makes sense to me to give it a shake and wake it up Perpetua i need to decant down a few bottles to maybe 50ml so i can leave it out instead of thawing re freezing. Great thread another one bookmarked I have about 2 litres of frozen nic mainly pg but some vg, hopefully that will keep me going for a few years and in the mean time find a get around when all the rules kick in.

I'm pretty certain there will be Grandad . . . . a discussion for another time in the future no doubt. While we still have the opportunity to buy our nic base above the radar it's wise to do so.

On the subject of shaking and/or mixing Nic Base.
Many months ago I was reading a redit conversation about Nicotine not being fully mixed in the base when received by some customers. This conversation involved US suppliers and customers.
There was lots of angst and some suppliers ultimately recalled product back for testing. It transpired that some saw "hot pockets" of high concentration nic within VG based base bottles - the nicotine had not been evenly distributed through the base VG. In short - it hadn't been properly mixed.
The end result, of course, was that DIY mixers were getting inconsistent strength vaping brews.
As I recall, there was no PG based product where such "hot pockets" were observed. It was theorised that the thicker gluggier VG base slowed down the rate of mixing that would naturally occur within the bottle during shipping and delivery.
The upshot was that all involved strongly suggested a thorough shaking/mixing of any bottles of Nic Base before decanting or use.
I am not an expert in such things - but I always mix up my product bottles before decanting or use. It does seem to make sense to me to ensure even distribution of nicotine. I've no idea how such mixing may affect long term shelf life of nic base.

I find as I make everything max vg that 90% of my mixes take like 2 months before they taste like they've reached that yummy taste I would expect. By habit every mix I make gets a very rigorous shake up before I decant into smaller 50ml bottles. And even the 50ml bottles I'm using for the week get shaken every time before I refill a tank

sorry for the silly question. once you freeze the nic and need to use it? How do you use it? defrost it and then use? You'd do better to keep a small bottle out for immediate use in a cupboard tabs604 , then freeze the remainder - rather than keep taking the bottle in/out/defrosting/refreezing and increasing the likelihood of contamination each time that you do. PG Nic base stays pretty runny when ' frozen ' . . . . . so it's possible to use it almost immediately, although preferably let it come up to room temperature and give it a good shake first. VG base, although that doesn't freeze solid it's like a very, very thick treacle straight out the freezer and there's no way you can pour anything out easily until it's thawed. Thanks Perpetua. Im planning on purchasing 5 x100 bottles (freezer pack) so will use 100ml at a time.

The obvious thing (obvious is not always right of course) would be to keep base as still as possible during the months/years of storage to reduce chemical interaction and then just before use; once it has reached room temp; shake it as much as possible to ensure even distribution.

Most definitely I only shake ready to vape juice

Just bought another litre and opted for 4x250 ml in amber bottles saves me faffing about buying more amber bottles myself and decanting, plus it still worked out cheaper than my previous 1 litre bought from them 9 days ago. Thats me definately vapocalypse proof now with 2 litres stashed away I'm not going to decant the litre bottle, thats going in the freezer as is in the clear glass bottle and that one will stay in there untouched until the smaller ones are all used up.

Perpetua you said in your post above about giving the nic a good shake, ive been told not to shake it as it introduces air which degrades it. Have i been miss informed ? Don't worry about it. Any sort of non solid will be different over time as in a mixed liquid. Each substance you mix together is of a different weight SP (Specific gravity) which means one substance is heavy in weight to the other so although we see it as a liquid all the stuff that is mixed together will phase separate and the heavier stuff will sink to the bottom. Shake before and defo before you use it, shake the bottle and rock n roll. All sing. Shake the bottle and rock and roll, shake the bottle and rock and roll,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, anyone now the next verse, been told go to bed.
