Since this seems to be a bit of a cat lovers unite thread I might just as well ask here. I would love to have a cat but it should be a cuddly breed. I don't really know how to explain this. Something that would be happily lying on my lap while I work at the computer. He/she should also be happy to live indoors, couldn't bear the thought of fluffy getting killed on the road. I wouldn't mind the maintenance like long hair etc. Anybody any suggestions?

I think Maine Coons may be a good breed for that. My our experience is mainly moggies.. some are more indoor/cuddly than others.
That said Savannahs are quite different in behaviour to most cats.. almost dog like. Ours follow us round the house and love sitting on laps.
Sadly they are both currently restricted to indoors only. The older one has been stuck on our roof 4 times now and had to be rescued and doesn't seem to learn. The other hasn't done it at all at least.

bioxx as with anything else you can only get suggestions, just as no 2 people are the same no 2 cats are either. It is generally assumed that Ragdolls are the cuddliest and will never want to venture outside, and whilst that may be true in general it isn't guaranteed. We have a customer who keeps horses, dogs and a Ragdoll, now THIS ragdoll hasn't read the user manual, it thinks it is a dog and goes for walks with them, it also tries to follow them when they go riding. So listen to recommendations BUT your cat may be different to others of the same breed.

Thanks for sharing the pics of all your gorgeous cats. bioxx I fit helps, my 2 are both rescue cats, both indoor only and both love attention with one in particular loves sitting on my lap and sleeping curled round my head. Cat Protection League is where I got them and they often have cats that are only happy indoors.

Might be a bit of a weird suggestion but why not pop along to an animal rescue centre and see if you hit it off with any as you can spend time with them. Their staff should also be able to give you the low down on their quirks and behaviours and will be really helpful plus if you end up adopting one its for a good cause. ooh ninja'd by taz96
