I've shrunk my wraps using a fast moving Butane gas lighter (I had to go and buy one special, as I decided not to have a fag lighter when I stopped smoking 3 1/2 years ago) a gas flame from the hob and I'm sure a hairdryer on hot would do the job too. It really doesn't take much heat to shrink the wraps. As an emergency "make do" I'd try a bit of insulation tape to cover the tear, but re-wrap it as soon as poss!!

Hairdryer works fine for a rewrap. I'd get a new wrap on that before using it myself. Wraps are dirt cheap and it's easy to do so really not worth risking a damaged wrap

I havent brought it to work today I'll just have to charge up through the mod later. I watched the video looks easy enough and i definitely don't want it to explode in my mouth so I'll hang on to get it fixed at the weekend.

I would also recommend buying future batteries from known good sources, there are loads of fakes out there that in some cases down right dangerous. Good retailers for genuine batteries would be Torchy, and Ecolux on Ebay, and Fogstar who has a dedicated site Here

Out of interest what will selotape do? And what do the wraps do? Electrically insulate. The wraps making a more permanent/better job. [ETA] the battery casing and positive terminal are metal .... if something conductive bridges between the two = short circuit = battery overload = probably battery venting = NOT GOOD/DANGEROUS/BANG

With wraps, you peel off the old battery wrapper, slide the shrink wrap on the battery, place the gasket over the positive terminal (the nipple or flatter bit at the positive end) hold with non conductive item and fire a hairdryer at it. the wrap shrinks and clings to the battery thus making it safe to use.
My offer still stands, will send a couple of pre cut shrink wraps and gaskets, just pm me.
