Hi all, my kitchen socket fuse has tripped out on the fuse board. I've unplugged everything and tried putting the fuse board switch back to its on position but it won't stay it just springs straight back. It coincided with plugging my laptop in a particular socket but like I say I've unplugged everything now. Advice or ideas would be very welcome.
Jay.

I had a similar problem not so long ago. Ended up finding that water had leaked through a tiny gap in a tile on my roof...straight down the air gap and into a socket.
Has it been raining where you are!? Lol

Sounds to me like something has come adrift inside the socket which is causing a short. Make sure the supply from the fuse box is isolated. Test it to make sure. Then take a quick look. Sometimes the internals can break.

Sounds like an internal short in that particular socket. I had the same thing a few years ago and replacing the socket sorted it. If you have no good electrical diy skills, it is a job for a qualified spark.

Thanks peeps, it's the socket at fault I've wound the screws out and the switch now resets, I'll let a sparky take a look.

Probably best leaving it to a spark, if you're unsure what you are doing.

I had similar 3 years ago, I decided it was my fridge/freezer causing the problem as it blew soon after, but the problem continued, my other fridge/freezer also blew up, so I replaced that as well and all was fine for a week or two, then it tripped and nothing would let me reset it, the problem was finally traced to the post outside my house (everything is overhead here), it seems that water had been getting into the connection at the top and was creating spikes of leccy in our house, tripping the mains (and more than likely blowing up both my fridges), I couldn't provide proof to claim from the leccy board but funnily enough we've had no problems since
