From one of the main men that developed Li-Ion, he's 94 now so his batteries must be tip-top. A team led by John Goodenough, the man who played a key role in creating the lithium-ion battery, thinks it has cracked a replacement. Goodenough, 94, and his merry band at the University of Texas have developed a solid-state battery that has three times the energy storage of a similarly sized li-ion power pack, can handle more charging cycles, will recharge much more quickly than conventional batteries, and won't burst into flames if damaged. www.theregister.co.uk/2017/03/03/replacement_for_lithium_ion_battery/

As the article says "if Goodenough is onboard..." I hope this is the great leap forward in Battery Tech that many industries have been waiting for! I just think this might be a launch of an appeal for Venture Capital?

Who ever gets the patient on the next mobile device battery tech (assuming it's similar to the claims here and patentable) is gonna be mega rich, even a few percent of it and it's supercars, villas and never work again.

Of course, the big market for this is not vaping. Power tools, smartphones/tablets, solar storage, electric cars (to name just a few) are the big players who will be all over any new battery tech that delivers improved performance especially if it comes at lower cost with improved reliability.
