I avoid all the triggers religously but sometimes they just happen, whether they be homonal or for whatever reason.6 weeks out of 12 i get them at least every 3 days so never really recover, ever likely i am a misersble sod sometimes, lol.Looking after lots of kids is always fun when you have got one, havent got a clue what they are saying half the time. One of my most famous sayings was when i was asking about a ring tone(in my head i was)all that would come out was ying tong, they have never let me live it down!

It might sound daft but does anyone else get this when they have a migraine? : I get one line of a random song (usually one I've not heard in ages!) that just replays over and over and over in my head. It gets so irritating and really makes the pain worse! Just remembered too that if the pain is getting ridiculous I lay down in the dark and repeat the word 'relax' to myself in head and that tends to calm me down as I find that the more worked up I get, the worse the pain gets.

I never suffered with migraines until I visited the deep in hull, the tanks must have triggered something in my brain ! My lord they are aweful I wrap a head scarf round my head really tight which seems to relieve a little of the pressure ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) luckily mine do take some time to come on and at the first signs I take some painkillers and it seems to do the trick other wise I am bed ridden for days . Yeah wrapping something tight round your head can ease it a bit, I use a dressing gown tie. I look like a fool when I do it but I don't care as long as it gives me that little bit of relief! I like to think of it as the Rambo look lol and when I am in that much pain I really don't care . My funniest migraine moment was when I feel asleep with my head on the toilet because the pain had subsided momentarily and I daren't move although I was not laughing at the time ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

They are sickening horrible evil things, I just have to sleep them off, can be in bed for 3 days, can't eat or drink, I wear one of them elastic stocking things on my head and yeah I look a fool but hey it helps (sometimes)...I have been taking magnesium OK for the past few months and they have reduced the number of migraines I get, I would get them monthly but now they are less frequent

I get classic right side of my head migraines, but no aura TG. I can't tolerate certain smells when I've got one, (particularly cigarette smoke) light and noise. I need to lie down in a dark, quiet room with heat and pressure on my head and no painkillers will touch it. They make you feel like slashing your arm or something, so you have a worse pain somewhere else to take your mind off it. It's stress that tends to trigger mine. I recommend Topiramate (Topomax) preventative prescription tablets. They're not 100% foolproof, but certainly help make the migraines less frequent, for me anyway.

I'm currently on topiramate, been on them for over a year now. Unfortunately they haven't helped me at all ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png) they are just another in the long long long list of prescription meds I've tried. I'm now weaning myself off them slowly and I'm down to 25mg once a day, I've lost over 4 stone whilst on them which is the other reason I need to stop them as I'm getting quite dangerously underweight and with all my other health problems it's not good ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/2973975/images/tp5PrWyI_PKJl_LSRuh9.gif)

They haven't affected my weight Bee, unfortunately. The only side effect I had is they've made my eyesight worse, but rather that than migraines. When I first started on them, they made me feel itchy, but that's mostly gone. I take 50mg which is the max. I'm allowed with all the other meds. I have, but I take propanolol which also helps prevent migraines.

I too suffer from migraines but also luckily my trigger is known to me - bright sunlight so I just need to remember to wear dark polarising glasses. Also my summer dark glasses are category 4 which is not advisable for someone without light sensitivity or you'll walk into stuff when going back indoors or shadowed areas (also illegal to drive with them coz' you won't see traffic lights properly). Sometimes it happens when I've been using the computer a lot but my normal clear glasses are polarising too which helps.
Edit: Doctors have found links between migraines and other things such as acute sense of smell. The migraines causes other senses to amplify - therefore some people find particular smells, sounds or sensations can trigger and/or alleviate symptoms. Scientists have been studying all this for years but have not made too much headway. Sadly the only known reliable cures are rest or having a wide spectrum electromagnetic pulse fired at your head, and this only relieves one attack at a time.

I get the auras in black and white, but don't get the pain (thankfully). I have a very fuzzy head afterwards. The auras last about 20 mins for me before they slide off to the side. I can have several a day or none for months. The only thing I know that sets me off is sunlight sparking off cars. When I get them indoors I never know what's set me off. Had them for about 20 years now.

For those lucky people that dont get them, take a look at what we see, fascinating but bloody awful. Thanks for that link, been trying to describe what its like to some friends, now I can show them. Mine wipes out my vision so all that I have left is small patch bottom left or bottom right and if they come on while I'm out and about the only way I can navigate is to look up away from the patch of vision I have left, sorta lets me see straight ahead in my peripheral vision. It usually doesn't last long and if it does I sit quiet for a while somewhere dark and it seems to clear up. Ocasionally I don't get the headache but usually do, which ranges from quite severe to somebody knock me out for christ sake, not pleasant. I try to be all big n tuff n blokey about it but these really get me down, the bastids. My Doctor's been pretty good, got me on amitriptyline to try and stop them coming on and seeing as my large bowel is now gone I've already got a rake of painkillers laid about. He sent me to get my head scanned (they actually found a brain) and a week later told me that they'd found a small lump and didn't know what it was and more tests were needed. So I thought uh oh, brain tumour and came home and wrote my will out and paid all the bills etc. Two weeks later the specialist told it was just a tiny cyst and nothing to worry as I'd probably been born with it. I thought bugger, I paid all those bills for nowt damn it, ah well. I can usually cope with the pain, just bung a handful of tablets down my neck and sturbbornly refuse to give in to it, but the wanting to puke and the dizziness and not be able to see stops me dead and I can't get on with anything and it annoys the crap out of me. Oops, been rambling, sorry folks ![:-X](//storage.proboards.com/2973975/images/fjsoKjXamcLHp5qOC1cm.gif)
