I get them from time to time and for 20 to 30 minutes can't see a thing through the zig-zags. The headache comes along about an hour after the flashing stops and, fortunately, it's manageable. I'm OK if I sit perfectly still for 36 hours but if I move my head it bangs like a drum! I had the aura the night before last and the headache has only just gone - no normal headache remedies touch 'em.
The auras I see aren't always coloured like the one in the clip, mine tend to be silver, sparkly zig-zags that go around both eyes - I wouldn't be able to type this post as I can't see through them/it at all. The one in the clip leaves clear vision on the left but I don't see that at all. They're also known as silent migraine as the headache doesn't always follow in every sufferer: my mother never got the headache, only the 'sparkly eyes' as she called them, perhaps because she was on Propranolol as mentioned earlier in the thread.
