is this even legal i thought companies had to get permission before doing this.
there was no mention of it anywhere during the order process.

dont you have to be 18 to have a paypal account? No.... and there lies the problem for online age verification. Debit cards and bank accounts can be held by minors.

Its under "Age Verification" at the very bottom of the webpage - I agree with you that they should have made it far more clear when you placed your order that you were consenting for them to do this.

The method of age verification may also vary, such as electoral register, etc. It costs the vendor for each age check, so is likely only to be done once per site.

It doesn't affect your credit score in the same way that a check for a loan would do. Many insurance companies also do a credit check for house or or car insurance.
I think they call it a soft search and it doesn't leave a footprint that other companies can see.
